Fuse box upgrade? what have you used?

Who has upgraded the fuse box electrics?

Mine is in a desperate need of an upgrade!

Quite similar to that though a bit bigger is the engine bay fuse box in a Rover 25:


Obviously, the circuits are pre-wired, but it's all pretty straightforward and nothing weird. The big fuse is for the alternator and the smaller lugged fuses each do a group of circuits some of which are further protected by individual blade fuses. Relays are general purpose ones intended for the obvious, lights, rad fan, heater fan, etc and marked as such.

thanks chaps I like the look of both of them, do you know if the terminals in the rover box can be replaced? so it can be re-wired completely with new wiring?

Terminals can always be replaced. Sometimes it's difficult to find the correct replacements but with a little search they are available. I've got proper tools for removing old terminals but often a tiny jewellers screwdriver is just as good for the common ones

The fuse boxes from old 80s and 90s SAABs are high quality. To upgrade the 70s fusebox in my older Saab 99 I had no hesitation using the later Saab fusebox.

I didn't have any problems with one good quality soldered joint to each wire into the fuse box. I could keep some of the wires original length - to the headlamps for example. But going to the interior electrics there is a multi-plug separating the fuse box from the interior loom. But if you do get Saab fuse box and it comes from a scrap car then it's worth taking the long lengths of wire by removing complete looms from the same vehicle. Longest wires are the ones running to rear lights. The cable from the Saab is top quality as well.
