Looking at buying one of these pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=331069324663&globalID=EBAY-GB Anyone has any experience with cutting under 2mm panels with a plasma cutter? I'm expecting it to be abit messy but that's easily sorted when it comes to grinding. A plasma cutter would get into more of the awkward places and in the long run would provably end up cheaper than a few hundred cutting discs?? Plus it's another cool tool to have in the garage Jack

Lot of money for something with worthless warrantee so I wouldn't risk it myself despite, like you, am a tool junkie so a plasma cutter is on my wish list.

Plasma cutter will slice 2mm with no trouble at all, should cut clean with minimal clean up required, if you have a large amount of cutting to do and the cost of discs offsets the cost of the plasma, I would say, go for it, but find a more local supplier, additional bonus, when finished the plasma can recoup some cost if you sell it, also much quieter in use and a lot faster And yes, as a self confessed toolaholic, I keep looking at plasma and tig plants Ttfn Glenn

Same with plasma cutters - hoping JTF decided to sell them at sometime as expect to be in sub £100 price range. With buying from such a large organisation such as JTF no problem getting a replacement WHEN (not if with a lot of Chinese product) items die during warrantee period

wherebouts you from, only asking as i have one in my shed that i don't use anymore and may think about selling it. You do need a good air supply for one though so you should bear that in mind

Cheers for the replies guys. Ive found this one too! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221313320596?_trksid=p2060353.m2763.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT£148 or offers for a brand new, should cut what i need no problem, it will be alot more pleasant for my neighbours i think so it might be a worth while investment. It wont take too long for the price to outweight the cost of cutting discs. I'm gosport, hampshire, how much would you be looking for yours? And where are you? I already have a fairly decent air compressor which would handle it no problems i should think

Be aware, the one you linked to needs a 5.5 kva supply, not insurmountable, just a pain if you want to be mobile Ttfn Glenn

It won't be leaving the garage but not sure what you mean?
Does it need a higher power supply or something? The garage runs my arc welder fine which is meant to draw a lot of current haha

Yes you will need a heavy duty supply, as far as my poor understanding of the darkness of things electrical, at least 16 amps, the big blue plugs and heavy duty cabling Ttfn Glenn

I've had a cut 40 for the last 10 yrs and it works fine off a 13a socket . Only thing I found is when you buy consumables get the ones with the longer tips which are about 8mm longer than the ones they come with . It's a lot easier to see the cut line and there's enough sticking out to use a 5mm angle to use as straight guide for long cuts . Anything over 3mm thick you need to keep the torch very straight or the cut gets very messy . I only use it for very thick stuff as its faster than a slitting disc .

I have a good friend who supplies new and used items like this. I can have a word with him if you wanted? All above board and will come with a form of warranty on it. Used him plenty of times myself.

With buying from such a large organisation such as JTF no problem getting a replacement WHEN (not if with a lot of Chinese product) items die during warrantee period I would not bother with such a machine as it has zero functions , making getting a decent weld nie on impossible . It has no slope up or down , which is the amps [ power ] coming in slowly/ fading slowly , and I'm gathering its scratch start [ dragging the tip the a arc rod to start ] , which contaminates it and way . It does not have pre/post gas either which is a must . I would budget a bit more for one of the big box like Chinese Tigs which are 200 amp ac/dc . They have all the bells and whistles you do need [ more so as a beginner ] , and having picked one up they must weigh 40 kilos , so quite beefy old technology in them .

Plus it's another cool tool to have in the garage Jack I have that same model - been almost perfect (see note) I've effectively removed a complete body from one car and a complete floor from another and it's handled everything I've thrown at it. It's cuts are clean and neat on thinner metal as long as the consumables are in good condition (so you get a nice clean jet) My free hand isn't the best so I tend to clamp box section to what I am cutting to provide a straight edge if I need to be neat and straight (slight issue when I exceeded the duty cycle - the light comes on to tell you but doesn't re-set itself so you need to switch off and on again after it's had time to cool down)
