I'm running a blob eye sti PPP
One of the last of the 2.0 turbos.
Average 16mpg ( most of my driving is round town). Parts aren't that bad. Cars really reliable. I service it quite often through choice.
It's 305bhp out the box, goes really well.

They push in the corners as standard, very under steery (I'm having that as a term!) My mate went from an Impreza to an S3 and said exactly the same!

And of course if you buy one never ever ever take it to scoobyclinic, you'd be better off asking my Mum to look after it

I had never heard about them having terrible handling, I suppose I always just assumed they must be amazing. Probably can't be worse than my current Corolla T-Sport! I am considering a classic as my next car as I think it is a now or never thing, I have past up so many cars in the pas that are now at ridiculous prices and I think that Imprezas will go the same way.

Oh no, don't get me wrong
They don't handle 'terribly' at all, they just don't live up to the hype that folks bestow on them as they believe because Subaru rallied one (and spent a tens of thousands on the suspension) that their road going one will be the same.
As mentioned they have lots of grip, they just push the front end unless you; for wanting a better phrase, try and get the back end out and drive through it.
I'm also gonna be one of the few that enjoyed owning a non turbo gx so much more than the sti I had.
My mate spent about £2.5k on Tein coilovers, a very subtle drop and a complete setup, corner weighting, all that jazz and it truly turned it into an animal. A much better mod than spunking the same amount on getting a few more hp which unfortunately people think is more worthwhile :/

Here's my 2.0 sport, does everything ive asked of it so far not particularly quick grips ok (front will push out when pushing on through a corner) all its wanted for in 6k miles is front brake pads and rear shockers pretty much does what it sais on the tin, only thing that bugs me is not having a flat entry to the rear load space and clutch pedal likes to stick about halfway down.

Always enjoyed the engine noise and rather unique exhaust note...
Took this engine out of one and made it up onto the stand you see, a bit back as it was worth more out of the car, to a Subaru enthusiast than the whole car.

Impreza's. Where do I start? Here is a good enough place as any... I'm not too old in the grand scheme of things so my first exposure to what would become for me an icon. Gran Turismo and V-rally This quickly moved on to actively finding them on telly. As time progressed the cars in my eyes got exceptionally good looking. Mcrae wasn't the only standout driver of these, Solberg comes to mind. Ooof! That six blade spoiler and shark fins on the roof. God I want it! Being a young boy at the time, these came along... Perfection comes in the form of these two... The gobstopper This : I, much like Marty from mighty car mods have a strange interest for the legacy B3's of the 90's. Also the B4's, in "that yellow" equipped with the Bilstein goodies. There aren't many cars that I can say I'd own every shape old to new... This is one. Models that stood out to me are the baby blue WR1's, P1's, 22B's, RB320's, bugeye impreza's with black lens covers. I love that it's an Impreza that owns the lap record on the isle of man TT course... To tell you the truth, the day I turn 25 and my insurance comes down from the moon for one, I'll be out to get a traditional blue and gold one. I realise I look at them with rose tinted goggles, but these along with mk2 GTI's have been an affordable amount of brilliance.

I like these. A lot. This is my current one: Which has been tremendously reliable, versatile with the estate end, and a total hoot. It is running better shocks which has helped considerably witht he above emntioned understeer. May need to sell her soon though... Also go this puppy: Which I'm breaking out if anyone needs bits. They really are tremendous value at the moment, with spares going really cheap due to the breakers everywhere. Shame really as in a few years the classics will end up the same way as the cosworths: Rare and expensive!

Love the classic Scooby, but I would say that since I have a UK '98 model! Shame it's off the road at the mo needing a rad, and a rocker cover gasket to stop the oil dripping onto the exhaust and sending plumes of smoke out of the bonnet vent!! Slightly modded with Powerstation's replacement AST coilovers, bump steer mods, uprated suspension bushes, full geometry tweak, decat etc. so it handles quite nicely when it works!

Do Imprezas have typical Japanese reliability? Also are they as ridiculous on fuel as I imagine them to be? I am thinking of one as a daily and am wondering if it is a totally stupid idea? I know I'm not going to be getting 30mpg but above 20 would be good! It is rather hard to find them in LHD over here but they do exist.

I car share on an easy 15 mile commute (mainly dual carriageway) with a colleague who has a UK300 version. He says he gets around 25 mpg on average but if he's driving like he's driving Miss Daisy on a run he can just nudge 30 mpg. In the two years he has owned it the only things its needed other than regular servicing are brakes and tyres.
As a passenger my own opinions are that it's quick on acceleration, perhaps too quick as it runs out of revs as soon as you change gear, is very cheap and nasty inside (daughters Clio uses better quality plastics!!), doors are tinny and shut with a rattle not a clunk, but the best bit is the exhaust note which is fantastic!!

You can get equal length manifolds to get rid of the awful noise they make and gain a few bhp in the process

I got over 32mpg cruising through Holland and Germany last week in my '99 2000 Turbo wagon*. Speed limits are pretty low in Holland, but they're not in Germany... Before I went I changed front discs, pads, oil and filter and was left with change from £200. So yes, seems to me like they're pretty cheap to run. *Car is standard with the exception of a centre decat (like the mental old woman a few doors down, they have far too many cats as standard).

The Series McRae people are having a stand at The Gathering, I'm hoping they go down okay, they are a touch modern, but are pretty special

A few from prescott [/a] this one stands out to me its just right, [/quote] I had one that looked exactly like this when i Lived in auckland, it was a J import wrx, so had 280hp standard, but was boosting 18psi, so would have been 300+bhp. It was lowered a little on tien coilovers, standard rims, and 3inch exhaust. It was curse word fast! It was running too much boost though and wasnt getting enough fuel at peak rpm. Id own one exactly the same in a flash, but i wouldn't entertain an UK spec, from what Ive heard they're pretty slow. But then, who'd insure a J spec reasonably? ps. I did have to put in a head gasket though, she was pressuring the coolant under boost, but was grand otherwise. A relatively quick cheap fix at about £400 Also had a twin turbo legacy wagon. It was alright, but much preferred the power delivery of the impreza single turbo
