Just thinking out loud with my partner Jenn.
With the new Beetle and BMW mini being common place and less so the new Viva, what would a new Morris minor look like if the Morris brand was revived?
Who owns Morris at the minute? Presumably it was part of the Rover group when BMW bought it?

Bmw retained morris as well as Riley and triumph. I'm always surprised that a new 2cv or R4 haven't appeared

First thing. I really like Moggies and owned one years ago. Next, Moggies have never been that 'cool'. Their name, even today makes some snigger or turn their nose up. The Mini was, and always has been loved, as has the Beetle. It's a bit like bringing back the Maxi; a few would be happy, but many would just ask why.

I think a legend should be left a legend. Ok, if they wanted to revive the morris brand that might be a good thing.
Vauxhall have bought out the Viva again and what a crock of wibblepoo that is....

Yes the viva is a massive disappointment, same as the Skoda Rapid. I think Skoda missed an opportunity to build a fast back cc style Octavia.
The Fiat 500 is ok, Mini and beetle too. Even the Scirrico plays ball!

To me the new Fiat 500 captures the style of the original while the both the new Mini and new Beetle look silly but each to their own. The new Viva was released here badged as a Holden and I've never really taken notice of how many there are around and what they're like so can't comment on that one. Any new Minor would have to be rear drive or else what's the point? It would just be another competitor for the new Mini.

If they brought out a new minor, I imagine it would retain some of the style of the original, but be twice the size, three times the weight and be completely impractical as this seems to be the trend with these modern rebirth.
That said, I think the 500 and beetle (especially the latest one) look great. Wouldn't buy either of them, but they definately capture the aesthetic of the old models well. Has anyone noticed some of the lovely retro touches on the Vauxhall Adam too?

Yes, I´ve seen some nice touches on the adam, but none on the latest beetle imo. I think there is something on the latest beetle that is far more reminiscent of the original than the 90's version, but can't work out what it is.

As said, there are some that work, and some that really don't. Some quite obscure choices, but no Moggy as far as I could see but if this Rover had been built, the company might still be around now.

That is breathtaking. In a good way! Personally I'm not a fan of any of the 'reborn' modern/classic/retro/salespatter things currently about, other than the Challenger. And Shitroen recently revived the moniker 'DS' and look at the abortion they stuck that on. Couldn't be further removed from the original if they tried! Bearing in mind the original function of the Minor, I'd imagine a modern version would be little more than a Focus/Astra or similar medium sized family hatchback. There has been talk in recent times about BMW reviving the 'GT6' badge from the Triumph/BLMC stable and sticking it on whichever Z car they were developing at the time, but that all came to nothing. IMO, they should let the classic names remain in the past with the classically styled cars that bore that name.
