Hi all,
I have some 2 piece split rims. 1 has started leaking from under the centre part where it bolts to the rim are.
I need to split it, clean and reseal.
However the bolts are not available anywhere. Confirmed when i had them refurbished 4 years ago.
The bolt heads are 12 spline bolts with a 8mm head. A good quality socket gets them out. (Well should do at least...)
However one is being stubborn and is starting to round off. Can I use a bolt/stud extractor to save the bolt or will it mess it up?
Wheels are Mugen MR5's in case that helps to see the bolt type.
Can anyone offer any guidance based on experience?
Thanks Stu

I've no personal experience, but from what I've seen and heard, try Voodoo motorsport.
He's always doing split wheels, and looks to be top notch work.
You can find him on Facebook and instagram

Contact Langy www.langysrodshop.co.uk/ (from Mig Welding forum) as he's importer / supplier of the type of bolts you require

5/16" is a shade under 8mm and might get a better grip, are they 12 point bolts as per the above pic, or 12spline, which are slightly different...

The Mugens are a little different to other split rims as they just use bolts and no nuts (the barrel is drilled and tapped). Pain in the ass if one snaps.
Using a punch and hammer give the head a few good taps, a bit of shock may loosen the threads.
Also i cant see how a Mugen MR5 can leak as they are just a two piece wheel only the face comes out and the barrel is one piece.

I wasnt sure if they were threaded into the barrel so was worried there was a crack somewhere. Turns out the crappy 6mm bolt in valve was leaking but as there was a blob of rtv sealant to help seal, the escaping air was travelling under the centre part and escaping where ever it could. Tightened valve and now air tight. While the wheels apart I can polish everything again. Then I'll do the others over winter. Thanks every one for the advice. Its very much appreciated. Stu

The callipers and discs on my 300TDi Disco are held on with the same type bi hex / 12 sided bolts. I managed to find an old socket that fits (all my "decent" are 6 sided !) but still not a very good fit and worried about the calliper bolts, which were rusted, stripping head. In the end bought a set from Machine Mart using VAT free offer and am glad to have them as an addition to tool box www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-pro224-10pc-12-multi-drive-socket-set
