My last new car was a little Kia Picanto and my front tyres only lasted 4k miles. I blamed heavy parking. The rears only lasted 10k though after being swapped to the front. I believe they were Hancock tyre's as standard. I've never managed to get more than 15k on any set of tyres. Good grief, the last set of tyres I took off my Impreza turbo had covered 20k!

I had a V6 Mondeo Auto which on Michelins could do 20-25k out of the fronts on 16" rims. The rears were well over double that, possibly triple. No other tyre lasted as long. Back then I was seeing around 7k a month from the car however.
A silly question but what tyre pressures is he running? Where has it been aligned? I know Rover aligned it, but I have seen so many people misinterpret the laser tyre gauges on the rear since the toe in/out figures only apply to the front the car ; they measurements have to be reversed on the rear if looking at the gauge (I.e Toe out on the gauge will actually be toe in).
My Mondeo above had this issue. It took a while to find but we did. From toe out it went to having toe in.
