Hi folks i was just wondering if anyone had fitted an exhaust flexi ( the clamp on type ) ? Iv just bought a pug 205 diesel that has a hole in what looks like a pretty new exhaust. Its at the bottom of the downpipe at the point where it bends to go under the car. I think a po had run it on coilovers and has ground a hole in the exhaust by it being too low. Iv seen these bolt on flexi pipes, this type of thing flexi and thought it could be the answer to my problem. So anyone fitted one? do you know how much you can bend them? and can you get it to seal ok? cheers steve

Are the links working?

nope!
theres already a flexible joint in the system, so you don't need a second, just patch the hole up.

I cant get the flipping links to work! The reason I'm thinking of using one of these is because i cant weld so id have to pay someone to do it, where as the flexi costs a tenner and i can fit it myself.

Get someone to weld it for you, putting a clamp on flexi on a bend is asking for problems.

they arent designed to be bent all the time, they just allow flex.
the 205 doesn't need two flexible joints, theres a fire ring between the downpipe and manifold, thats all it needs.

I know it doesnt need two flexi's i just thought it would be a cheap diy fix. Didnt know that they shouldnt be bent all the time. Ah well looks like il be paying someone then. Thanks for your help

Yeah, if those flex joints are used to form a bent permanently they crack in no time at all, they are just to allow for slop in the engine mounts and vibration and should only really be used to replace a straight length of tube.

I bodged similar in the past, worked for 6 months then started blowing more than a cheap hooker.
Turned out the flexi including cat was only £24 posted so I should have fixed it properly in the first place haha

Well this morning i ripped off the exhaust bandage thing off the exhaust and found under it a wee hole about the size of a finger nail, after a few pokes with my trusty screwdriver it was the size of my thumb nail. Iv dropped the car off at a mates garage for him to weld a wee patch on, as i plan to turbo the car so will need new down pipe when i do that anyway. Thanks to everyone that commented steve.

You should price a new pipe from your local motor factors.
On the 306 1.9td phase 2 it was normal to buy a phase 1 down pipe from the motor factors as it was straight through, and cost something low like £19
Also, buy a new gasket ring and springs/washer setup for that union between the manifold and downpipe, it's not worth attempting to reuse the old stuff
