£395 may not seem all that cheap, but the car's current owner has it for sale at a 4-figure price!

£300 Chevette back in 1984.

More recently my current daily BMW 320i Touring with 10 months MoT and just 100k for £450 a year ago.

Bought my old B4 Passat for £700, ran it on veggie oil (avg 75p/litre) for 3 yrs getting 45-50mpg then sold it last year for £550.

Datsun Cherry a very early model exchanged for 50 photocopies which would be about £ 2.50 maybe today.
Didnt want the Datsun but it sold straight away a decision regretted after.
Bought a Ford Popular 100 E running order for five pounds once.
The 100 e was 1977 and Datsun 1995 ah good old retro days we wont see again.

86 Fiat Panda with 6 months test for £10, 91 Nova with 2 and a bit months test for £18, 88 340 Volvo 4 months test £22, the Nova a Volvo were driven out of the auction for the price.

Apparently that was because they needed the money and his mrs told him to sell it and he didn't want to, or so he was saying last week anyway. He's been out buying lowering springs and alloys for it, not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Another I wish I'd had the space to keep.

I've managed to end up with some freebies over the years but recent ones included this for £150.

To be fair it was rough and has taken a few months of welding to get the body sorted and de-90 spec'd back to standard. Getting it back from paint this week

and this for £150 with 6 months MOT, just needed 3x e/w and a bonnet due to laquer peel which I had in the same colour from one I broke a couple of years ago

No pics but I bought my Fiat uno for just £50, and it took just £100 to get it through MOT it ran forever and was sold to a guy who also ran it forever, don't make fiats like they used to !

Rover 100, £50 spares or repairs before the 'scrapyard drive', threw a 'new' interior into it and six years later its still hooning about. Being tidied up at the moment...

Cheapest road going runner was a Phase 1 306 DT for £200. Needed a fuel pump which cost £50 and ran the car trouble free for a year.

I was gifted a Subaru Legacy GTB by an old boss who was emigrating to the USA. Lovely car automatic with twin turbo. Smoked around for a couple of months and sold it for £2.5k.



I also had a 1986 Mercedes 280 CE which i found in a car park. I traced the owner who had moved to Dubai, who told me to go and visit his mum. She produced all the paperwork and gave me the car for free!
Sad story with the Merc though, the neighbors took great hatrid to this car and called the police who told me to move it on. Not wanting to have a Eastenders relationship on my door step - i sold for £150 - these things are worth mega bucks now [sad][/sad]

£75 Scirocco Scala. Filthy white interior but never let me down until it got written off. Bought cheaper but they never made it back on the road.

Impossable to say, had so many cars for free, Mk6 fiesta that wouldn't run cos the bonnet leaked rain water into the plug vally, 4 new plugs and it went straight through the MOT (now my youngests daily), Mk1 focus with a knackerd diff that turned out to be a knackerd driveshaft, fixed and MOT'd for £84.

Propperly bought cars? my latest hack a pug 106 1.5 D, paid 300 quid with a years MOT, new CD palyer and speakers just fitted, does 60MPG and runs on SVO at 80 per ltr, does the london swansea and back run monthly instead of the P100 .

A few years ago I needed a stopgap car so I searched eBay for cars in the local area for under £300 and up popped a Volvo 850 2.5 Auto.

I arranged with the seller to go and look was pleasantly surprised to find it at a gated residence about 5 miles from my home.

The car had cir. 225k miles, was faded red to almost pink, had and interior that was as filthy as a tramps pants, and it needed an mot. But on the upside it had been well cared for mechanically, had two recent front tyres and was fully loaded with kit, including a car phone and heated leather seats.

I offered the bloke a cheeky £225, which he declined, so I said that I'd take my chances on the auction, which I then won for £220.

I took it straight to the MOT station, where it passed. Then I thoroughly cleaned it and used it for three fault free months.

Great car and would have another.

£437 scimitar bought 6 weeks before Le Mans '13. Black car had white doors in the boot as the windows wouldn't work. It also had the ragtop removed some marine ply screwed into place, and then fibreglassed over the top (about an inch thick in the middle!). I bought an electric vw polo rag top for £70 off ebay, got out the jigsaw, cut a hole in the roof, and off we went.



Sold for £1300 to fund the purchase of the buggy. Still a wicked car - put it on a rolling road near the house to check it's health, and it had factory level hp and torque. loved it.
