Put the hopefully now dry carpet and sound deadening back in the 100E, have yet another go at sealing the windscreen and give it a quick clean ready for the street rod nationals tomorrow

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

Just sold my e36 touring and will shortly be heading off to Brum to pick up the W140 S280 advertised elsewhere on here.
Have wanted a big old Merc for ages, so a tad excited. Really hoping it lives up to the pics.
Will try and keep this one for longer than 2 weeks. Ahem....

Over the weekend I started putting the manifolds back on then realised that the head had been set up to receive the Holbay items with different length studs. Initially I am just re-fitting the standard carb and exhaust so I need to get a couple of studs as I didn't have enough of the right size in stock. I then turned my attention to the ROS door where the door button had jammed in the 'in' position. Carefully removed the door card and saw that a lever which is pushed by the button was slightly bent allowing the button to slip past it and then jam on it. A little pressure applied to the lever bent it enough to prevent the button jamming. Next I had a crack at the boot carpet. It went from this: via this and this to this By no means perfect but a lot better than it was, the boot polish should help the vinyl top surface too. Here it is back home: Another little job involved the shredded rubber gearlever gaitor. It was next to useless and let fumes in last time I drove it (2008). I had an old leather gaitor and a spare ring from a Motolita steering wheel. Some judicious use of a drill and a wee while later I had this: Top of the fuel tank after 2 coats of Hydrate 80. Mildly cleaned up off side of the engine. Yet (never?) to be cleaned near side.

I had many good intentions, put Land Rover back together, paint it's roof and sort the ECU wiring on my MX5 so I don't have to unplug it every journey. But I didn't do any of them, and instead I made a small table to house my 3d printer. Making use of the very large pile of free aluminium extrusion that we have at work!

After getting the 924 through her annual check up (MOT) with a brake pipe re route and scrap bin exhaust pipe and NO advisories! ....a good old wash and polish then a few drives around the island to celebrate ...which then became a mini engine service, interior strip out and clean, yellow tinting the side lights and a few other bits....still had time for a couple of drive outs on a sunny BH monday though

20 years ago my little Renault 6TL was laid up and the engine seized at some point between then and now. It had left me with pistons that were really stuck in the liners. Judicious application of oil, diesel, patience and eventually hammers and a wooden drift saw them free! So now I've just got to put it all back together again. My very first foray into engine block rebuilding.
