My latest and perhaps last project for a while- a 1985 x1/9. It has been on my 'list of cars to own' for along time after seeing them at a garage in the late 1980s having eurosport bodykits fitted. My X was laid up in 2014 in Romford area I believe. To put it back on to road needed: Welding to NS and OS jacking points and floor Welding to OS rear turret and OS and NS rear inner arches Replacement steering column switch gear Repairs to headlight wiring and beam alignment Repairs to rear foglight Replace exhaust box Replacement rear calipers I have also fitted a 1300 bumper repro kit and new interior carpets. Still rusty in places but not too bad. Good in some typical bad X spots though made it worth saving.

Great cars, I would have learnt to drive in one if the hydraulic clutch hadn't packed up on my dads the day before I was due to start driving! On the upside he bought me a Skoda Estelle!!

Always thought these are such a pretty little car. Do they rot as much as you would expect?

Nice car. These look so much nicer with the 1300 bumpers compared to the massive 1500 ones.

Thanks for replies. The rear suspension rust was quite bad as it is triple skinned. Happily though the other common rust spots of arches, nose cone, roll over bar, windscreen surround, are fairly good. I was surprised at how heavy the original bumpers were - substantial bars of steel...!

I always thought that these were cool wee cars. Being Italian and mid engined a bit of sexiness rubbed off on to them from various famous exocita. Found a big arched version a few months back. Deep dished wheels look lovely on it. Must drag a photo of it out. Yours looks good

Think its called the Prototipo. The one I've seen is red with yellow arches. Looks very cool.

I loved my X1/9. But the floor was rivetted in (along with some other significant rust), so it failed the MOT catastrophically and had to go. The 1300 bumpers are so much prettier than the 1500 ones too... The owners club was pretty cool when I had it. The usual mix of people who wanted them completely stock, and lunatics putting Uno Turbo/Fiat twink/Alfa V6 engines in them! Bookmarked.

I had an awful X reg one, the body was dropping apart but the floors were good, I know they were good because they held water really well. In the winter the pliers I had to use to pull the bonnet release became a sad iceberg of metal uselessness. The exhaust had come off entirely and behind the beautifully blended on bumpers, there was no metal. This was also the reason you couldn't put anything I the front or rear boot. When the fuel light came on you had 3 seconds to refill and the lights worked, didn't work, did stuff when they felt like it. Many fun stories. Well, 2. Awesome car. I'd have another but I'd love a 1300.

When looking round the 1500s still seemed affordable but the 1300 is climbing now. Still I am surprised they do not command a higher price.

What a wide body you have! All the better to contain vast amounts of rust.
Does look good the facade of that wide one. Back when these were contemporary they were transport to and from the salon perhaps called something imaginative like 'Swiss Hair' or 'Streaks Ahead' etc.
I haven't seen one on the road for years. Your example looks good - like a smaller, sharper TR7 with shades of the Stratos.
Reminds me that I've got to get my hair cut.
