Before you all point it out... - Yes, there is a patch on front bumper that is a different colour
- Yes, it was me...
- No, I didn't realise there are loads of different shades of Mercedes Brilliant Silver
- Yes, I am a clot
- Yes, I will re-do it at some point
When I bought it, it had a heavy scrape on that corner but I have filled it and painted & laquered it and was chuffed with the result (Colour match aside)
I will order some of the correct shade 744 and put it right Part of the problem is rather than try to blend the repair you have edged up to your masking. Regardless of colour match, even if the colour is perfect, if you do that, you will always have an edge. You'd barely notice the colour is off if you blended the paint repair into the bumper. Not trying to knock your efforts, the pre-paint prep looks to have gone nicely, just trying to advise you of how to rectify the issue. With the proper paint shade, some time and careful application that repair will be hardly detectable. Otherwise.. Cool car. Very nice. I look at that dash though and can't help thinking one of these would like right at home in there

I knew I would get a lip but wrongly assumed that I could flat it back so no line would be seen. When I re-do it, are you suggesting I mask up quite a bit larger and then don't spray up to the masking?

Yea, you don't want to spray up to the masking, just feather the new paint into the old paint, and then the same with the clear coat, spraying out further than your repaired area. In this instance the masking is just to prevent overspray on adjacent panels rather than making a defined zone to paint Once you get the hang of it, you'll be well on your way.

Took this beast on it's 1st decent run out last night to the South Coast (To meet my day old Granddaughter!)
As it was an occasion, I filled it up and the Wifey effortlessly wafted us there & back without issue. The new exhaust drones a little when going uphill but hey, that rumble has to have a tiny downside?
Only time of panic went on in my own head was when we left the A3 at Horndean, we were doing around 60mph but it really feels like 20mph and the Mrs hadn't factored in such a short slip road! Hard on the anchors, she stopped fine but as we pulled away there was a massive stench of petrol? There was however a broken down focus at the roadside and I hope it was coming from that as didn't smell it again.
So far, owning this car has been an honour, majestic even - I mean it, I actually think that if it went BANG tommorrow and was worthless, I would still not regret buying it - even if I lost all the money it owes me. The ownership has been that special (How it makes you 'Feel' when you drive it.) I am just not used to that part of motoring but I like it!
Anyone else get this feeling about your car?

Not many mercs go bang, that's why I will always by them Instead of a jag,, must get an E55 amg soon! My best mate has an E55 AMG - a 1999 I believe. I have driven it loads and whilst I like it, the ride quality is a million miles away from mine IMHO - Most peeps say that the ride is shot if you put 18's on a W140 (I disagree to some extent) I have driven his on 18's and 20's - On 18's it's not great but on the 20's its damned awful! It must be a class thing Dan - We are both normal guys with working class backgrounds. That's probably why it feels so special?

That is very very nice, May I ask how much you paid for this little beauty? I missed the post - You may indeed. It was on a classified ad for £2850. I got the owner to put 12 months MOT on it and paid him £2600 for it. I can't say I'll ever make a lot on it but surely I can't lose? In other news.... You just couldn't make this up! Some of you may or may not know but I am staff on oldskoolford (Mainly modding and admin on FB etc) Wll ever since I sold the Cortina, I've been getting stick on the site for straying from old Fords but I don't care, I'm a car guy, not just Fords. Anyway, when I bought this beast, I posted up pictures etc of it for our members to give me some banter etc and yesterday, one member whom I don't know personally, but know the username, posted up this.. 'I suggest you remove the panel under the wipers, change the dust filter and lubricate the blower as they start whining and cost £400 to replace!' I thought, there is someone that seems to know his onions? So I pressed a little more and it turns out that HE is the Mercedes specialist at the end of my road!!!!! The one who serviced this very car from when it was 5yrs old until it went to Ipswich a couple of years ago! Jesus, how spooky is that! Apparently, he also owns a Mk1 Escort hence his OSF membership. Is is it wrong for me to feel so damned lucky? Here was me, worrying I'd bitten off more than I could chew and it turns out that a guy that knows this car inside out works 100m from my front door! #blessed lol Hi there. Congratulations on the purchase and looks like it went to a good home. Things I can tell you about the car: - the wheels on it were not from new. They had the standard CL alloys (name escapes me at the moment - ETENE I think) - it is not an AMG spec so someone has added the AMG badge later and taken off the CL500 one. It is a standard CL500 - the option was the half-wood/leather steering wheel. The leather is also standard (nappa was on the V12's as standard but an option on the V8's) - the top speed that it has ever done is 252kph (that is GPS verified) and the speedo was off the dial. That was limited by the speed limiter. It will not go another kph faster. There was still around 1000rpm to go before redline. - pity that it has the rusty arches.- I was the third owner. The first owner had it for a short time; the second owner bought it as an approved used (I won't put more info on here but suspect he may be the chap your nearby village) and had for a number of years; I had it; sold to the musician from Ipswich. It then appeared on eBay in Sept/Oct 2012 at a used car place (cannot recall where) and was sold to who I presume was the fellow you bought it from. - the Ipswich musician said that he had the gearbox overhauled (around 2010/11) - do keep the standard CD system and head unit and get it repaired (I was going to ask if it has the squisy 'melted' volume button and see that it has :-) I knew when I was selling it that I was doing the wrong thing and have kicked myself ever since. I can't speak for the owners after me but both me and the owner before me had a money-no-object view to maintenance on it. Say hi to Olly for me :-)

Ah, just re-read it again.
The specialist you referred to is different to who I used. I did go once to the one you are referring to have the brake switch replaced (it was triggering a BAS/ASR fault) and that was who the previous owner used.
I remember walking back to the station from dropping it off so probably went past your place!

Well well, a previous owner! The arches really aren't that bad and I will have them done when it gets a tad warmer. The CD changer doesn't work at all so when funds allow, I am going to fit the optional Audio 10 in dash player. I have around 10 receipts for the guy in my road so he has Deffo seen it on more than one occasion? Inside is still like new thankfully with only the near side butler inoperative. TBH, I've still only done 300 miles since I bought HIM, but with a grin like a Cheshire Cat for every one of them! To celebrate finding out his name, I'm going for a blast right now.

Only 300 miles... What the heck have you been doing man? I lied, it's almost 400 now TBH Robin, I don't 'Actually' need a car at all. My Wife drops me at work and picks me up again as she drives past my work to get to hers. We don't really go out anywhere other than Tesco locally so all it gets used for is to visit my parents every other Saturday. (4 mile round trip lol) But I, like most other men, like to have a toy. In this instance, my toy happens to have a big burbling V8

lol, i know what you mean, i've got these cars and i walk everywhere! If i go into town i walk because by the time i've driven in, found somewhere to park and parked up it's taken me far longer than it would've taken me to have walked. I cycle to work, because it takes me less than a minute from closing my front door to opening the door at work if i go on my bike! You know what, i think i'll sell 'em all! I don't need them, this years new thread? "Twelve Bicycles In A Year!" ha ha.

Not sure how I missed this thread. What a lucky man you are. What a great car. I loved my CL500 (year 2000), which I sold on last June. Miss it a lot.... Awesome cars. Best built car I have ever had. Pure quality.

It's official - I never thought I would become attached to a car but I am - And now I have to sell it!
Truth is, my Wife and I are moving into our 'Forever' home on March 3rd and there is only room for 1 car in the cul de sac.
I know some of you will say 'Rent a garage' but you may not realise the sheer SIZE of this beast - It doesn't fit in many car spaces, let alone a council lock up!
So, if any of you fancy a V8 slice of luxo barge, PM me - you know what I paid - happy to sell around that figure.
@mercdan68 - are those C Class Merc's you have and ideal daily for the Wife? Petrol or Diesel? Would have to be a minter.
