Hi all...
This question as been in the back of my mind for months now, despite what is posted and said about pugs I think there's a few out there that do make really good and reliable cars.
but one thing is obvious.. why do pugs not become out and out classics like fords (previous classic ford owner), VW, etc etc.. why not pug?
I know they have a reputation for french electrics, but ford has a reputation for rust (without offending anyone).
from where I'm standing as an owner of a few pugs now.. the parts supply quickly dries up from pug/citroen after the car has been out of production for say 3 years. so would it not make an ideal/easy business prop for someone? i.e remanufacturing the original parts? There's demand out there!
I have owned a 306 cabriolet 1.8s and then sold it and have recently bought it back (modified stupidly by buyer and has been returned to original) and have owned a 306 cabriolet 2.0SE. my brother also owns a 306 cab 2.0SE too.
they have been very very reliable and my 2.0SE was bought on ebay for £480 having been sat on a driveway untouched for 2 years. new tyres, fresh petrol and it had an mot! quick service and it covered over 20k miles in 8 months! last summer going from west yorkshire to lands end to west yorkshire to john'o'groats and back to west yorkshire again! a real roadtrip of the U.K - not giving a moments bother whatsoever the entire 2k+ miles!.
parts appear to becoming difficult for the 306cabriolet now and are quite difficult to find any 306's of any type in most breakers in yorkshire.
do you reckon the 306 cabriolet will become a classic?
my current one (the original one where it all began) is now 14 yeas old and has 71k miles on the clock. -
work done so far within the last 5 month
upgraded from half black leather to full tan leather
new rear plastic window
hardtop in matching tie break green - with the metal cover tops - not plastic repro's and all fittings etc (only minor crack on one corner - usual area from incorrect storage)
original cyclone alloys fitted
new lower arms
new P bushes
new drop links
new track rod ends
cambelt, water pump, tensioners, idler pulleys etc done 2 month ago
has a few marks on the bodywork but generally tidy
new handbrake cables
new clutch cable
new radiator
new bottom hose
new driveshaft oil seals
new CV gaitors
full service - all filters, fluids, plugs
anti-roll bar bushes
as it stands.. what would you say its worth? - 2001 X 306 cab 1.8s - not selling but wondering.
reckon these will become a classic?
