I'm struggling big time to find the manual Volvo 740/940 etc. Turbodiesel I need. I've been browsing the web with gusto, and hitting the phones hard when something's come up, but the ads are always out of date. So far, the only viable one is 350 miles away on the border of Scotland, and hasn't been on the road for 10 years. The other I found has been on carandclassic, but has been using water for the last 8 years and the owner has been topping it up with water and K seal for that amount of time as well, alarmingly I'm currently using:- Here
- Carandclassic
- Trovit
- Volvoforums.org.uk
- Ebay
- Gumtree
- Multiple cars for sale Facebook pages
- Multiple Volvo Facebook pages
Are there any other websites to check? Places to go? People to call? Anywhere in Hampshire would be ideal, but fir the right car that I can drive home, I'm glad to drive the length of the country, get ferries, maybe even walk a bit. Edit: worth adding the car is definitely for my mother and not at all for me.

Looks like you've got them all covered. Only ones I would add is autotrader and pistonheads.
If you get the autotrader app you can set alerts when a particular car comes up for sale.
I was surprised by the amount of older cars still on there because I thought most people had moved to eBay...

Try Lakes Autos, big Volvo breakers near St.Neots by Cambridgeshire. They've got so many complete cars in there, there's got to be at least one...

Always worth tapping up the smaller garages for part exchanges and stuff they have laying about or due to come in.

Try watching the auctions, you'd be amazed what gets traded in at main dealers. Mannheim are the big boys. You want the cheap'n'cheerful night, all the old stuff too old for main dealers.
Also watch the classic auctions, Anglia Car Auctions November sale is already filling up. There's a W124 500E booked in, my mate's eyeing it up already.
Finally keep looking at for sale boards in supermarkets, local shops etc. The older community don't do that new fangled interweb but they love a hand written card and a photo, and all the best bargains come from old boys who've cherished their pride and joy.

I would list then phone up 20 or so garages around you , leave your details and what your after .
Also try rods and sods or join the banger racers website [ unsure of its proper name ] , as I'm betting vovlos are propular with them and they seem to stockpile cars and get them free .

Sound advice, my evening is now fully booked with Internet.
I'm not willing to go lhd unfortunately though, I would like a UK car.
I can't believe it's so hard to find a diesel manual anywhere in the county. I was under the impression that the old 700 and 900 series cars were ten for a penny and clogging up forecourts nationwide.

Was curious about this and searched everywhere I know of.
Could not even find ONE turbodiesel 740/940 for sale in the UK. They are all petrol versions.
A mate of mine says that the people who have them drive them into the ground and never sell them.
Could you have a petrol one instead?

Unfortunately I couldn't have a petrol one It's amazing that there just simply aren't any at all, similar aged mercs of similar engine sized have a good selection of diesel engines, but I want mum needs a Volvo.

Why does she want a diesel? Probably easier to change her fuel-type

Remember to check also on the facebook drift pages to see if one comes up through those channels. I find a lot of old BMWs that way. You mention ferries so you can try adverts.ie, donedeal.ie for t'sowt', and gumtree NI and usedcarsni.com for cars in t'nort'. Still see a few about over here and a few people I know have had them within the last couple of years (all now sold on but they are around).
