not when they arent willing to offer more than 2000 i havnt told anyone to 'fark off' haha... I'm far too polite for that iv negotiated with a few people, and highest price anyone wanted to pay was 2200, and when we worked out a deal on an albeit higher price with that person - they never replied, and still havnt to this day 2-3 weeks later. iv told everyone who has enquired about it the lowest we would take, and i believe its worth every penny! people expect too much for too little these days. i can understand haggling, but i wouldnt offer someone 2000 for a car advertised at 2750. Id assume i was taking the pi55 tbh and would expect a sarcastic reply

its the same as selling cars in general these days.. we have a classic mini for sale, started up at 2700, and straight away i had people offering 2000 over the internet. how is 2000 a near offer to 2700 ? or even 2500 ? don't know how some people tick. Does anybody buy a used car (actually a new one either) for the asking price without trying to negotiate? I'm rubbish at buying cars bu even I try to make an offer just to see what happens. Even if it's a mint condition Mercury leadsled and the owner's asking for a hundred pounds I'll see if they'll take £90. To the OP's question:- 1. Do you need the cash? 2. Do you want a new car?

Because they are trying to enter into negotiation with you? You advertise for £2700, they offer £2000, you say "No way, how about £2600?" and they probably come back with £2200, and you to and fro until eventually you settle on a number around £2400/2500, which would be about right on a car advertised for £2700. If you just tell them to 'fark off' at £2000 they'll probably not bother coming back with another offer, hence you've lost out on a potential sale. Or more likely these days you counter offer then they say ' it aint wurf that mate ' Or like i have , send you a message saying they will have it and you never here a word from them again .

I had a guy offer me too much money for my car last week, I told him I'd think about it and let him know at the weekend. Saturday came, I phoned the guy up and told him ok, come and get it, it's yours. His response? I'll think about it! My feeling is that he's not comming back for it... strike while the iron is hot etc.

With norwegian sales behavior, a 2000 bid on a 2700 priced car would initiate a response along the lines of "Go play in traffic" ;D Haggling is generally frowned upon, and seen as pretty rude tbh

I've physically destroyed car parts right in front of people for curse word like that... When i give someone a really nice price, wich happens if its nice people, offering even LESS flips my switch. And i KNOW i'm not the only one!

Here in New Zealand haggling over the price of a big item like a car or a house or anything second hand is normal and expected.

In 1973 I bought a 1954 Humber Hawk for £60. It was 2 days older than me, had 1 previous owner, a genuine 18k miles on the clock, plastic covers still on the leather seats and was mint in every respect. A couple of months later, a guy in a pub asked if I wanted to sell, I said no i've not long got it, he pulls out a great wad of cash and counts out £650 in front of me. I got a taxi home! That was 42 curse word years ago and I STILL regret it!!!!!! Don't you be as foolish as I was!

I haven't as of yet had anyone ask to buy any of my mk2's, though I do get people that assume because it's old that I won't mind scratching it, even if it does have near mint condition bodywork and paint, yes seriously... just this week someone thought the best place to park was the only entrance to the car park to three apartment buildings, loads of people came out and started complaining about it, one lady walked up to me as I was waiting for the police to sort the matter and asked me if I would use my car to push it out of the way because my car is old and "isn't worth anything" little does she know its worth more than double possibly even triple her Renault shitspace. You may notice that we could fit through the gap, well I could had she moved when asked, she could if she could drive.

I had it a few years ago at a car show, a young lad in a parka came over and was asking if it was a genuine Mk2 cooper. I pointed out a few things so that he could tell if he came across a real one in the future. At this point he called his dad over who was stood with a gen lotus cortina parked a few pegs down. We got talking and he was very interested.
He then turned around and asked how much it was. I was slightly confused by the comment and he then said "what's it up for" followed by "everything's got a price". He seemed quite offended when I insisted it wasn't for sale.
Personally I just could not sell my cooper. End of.
Obviously, if someone came along with a life changing amount of money then I would have to seriously revaluate my standpoint but in the real world, that's never going to happen.
I have many car related friends and some of them have had cars as long as I've known them, or they have something they're super passionate about, in my mind that car is part of them and parting with it is just not right.

I am of the opinion that everything has a price but, as others have said, that price may just be ridiculously high if I really don't want to sell.
