Been quite awhile since I've been on this forum after selling my imp
We have had this project for over a year now and haven't really done anything to it Until about a week ago when I came home from a weekend in Wales with the imp resparked my intrest in getting this car up and running
As far as we know this car has been raced rally'd, hill climbed and raced again pritty much since the day it was built So I'm sure you can imagine there have been a lot of modifications done to the car over the years including spot lights and a front radiator So there has been a lot of tidying up to do and removing a lot of old wires ect ect

Nice to see a Clan again - Our local garage "Langrop" in Ansty was an agent for them back in the early 70's and I was tempted to buy and build!!

Haha thanks for posting the pics We are currently getting an 1120cc engine built that will be running twin webber And hopefully somewhere around the 100bhp mark Quite a step up from the 35hp 875cc engine that's in it atm We are really just planning on getting it tidied up remove more of the wires that don't go anywhere We managed to get all the lights other electrics working today I'm quite tall where as the previous owner was quite short so I phycally don't fit in the cars
Tomorrow we will get the new grp bonnet fitted (left hand side of the top photo) Then really just getting it mot'd to drive it a bit before winter really hits Then the engine will get changed, get it painted and really clean what there is of the interior

Got it running properly today, turns out the inlet manifold was slightly loose so there was an air leak, new gasket fitted and a new twin choke car and it's running like it should

Always wanted a Clan Crusader. I can remember the first time I saw one at the start of the Circuit of Ireland in Carrickfergus in 1980, I think. It was blue and in an early edition of Classic and Sportscar they had one exactly the same compared against a Ginetta G15. Great cars and of course the updated version was built here in Northern Ireland in the 80s.

Nice one Stu!
I can just about fit in Clark's Clan as he now has MX5 seats in it. Then again,. at 6'2" I'm a Hobbit compared to you!
Good to see you both in Pandy.

Remove seat runners and using fixed seat will give more headroom. Also recline seat slightly to give more headroom. That's what I've done and at 5ft 10ins I just clear the roof and full cage in my helmet with Hans device.
If the above is insufficient then the better alternative in my opinion to raising the roof is to lower the floor. Has been done successfully on a well know turbocharged sprint and hillclimb Clan.

Pete,
Stuart's about 6'4" or more so he might need to lower the floor and fit a bubble-top!

Lower the floor then. Don't use bubble top if using in competition as top of head will be above roll cage if fitted.

You'll have to make one but should be able to use part of the existing. Not done it myself on a Clan but did have to do it on a Fiat X1/9. With that we cut out the existing floor and made sides to form a box and then welded it in. Obviously you can't weld the Clan floor although I have been looking for some fibreglass wire/rods for years!

Well we have had a slow couple of days on the clan
We picked up an extended sump for the new engine and a fuel tank out of a ginetta that needs modifying so it fits as we want an external fuel filler going through the center of the bonnet
We also had a good look underneath and everything looks good, we did notice that the rear wishbones have been reinforced, Once the car gets its mot we have decided that all the suspension will be getting stripped and powdercoated
We also pulled all of the old shocks off as the fronts were leaking and the rears wornt far behind them, it's going to have heavy duty imp shocks for a while, sure imp shocks arnt ajustabe but even std imp shocks are stiffer than std clan shocks We also inspected all the brakes and I'm pleased to say that everything looks good and we won't need to change anything

Quick update Yesterday we fitted the bonnet pins to the car/new bonnet and cut the holes out for the front rad We have also booked the car in for its mot this Tuesday, we really don't have too much more work to do to get it ready for the mot mainly work under the bonnet such as getting the horns wired in
Like I said in one of the previous posts once the car has an mot we will take it off the road over the winter and get all the suspension powder coated as we are doing this I will redo all the brake lines And really tidy up the inside of the car more ideally I'd also like to look out for a disk brake conversion I have got some adapter plates that apparently came off of a race imp back in the day I belive it will use a fiesta calipers but I will trial fit the brackets to my mums imp as she already has fiesta brakes
