Really, what it says on the tin...
I got's this car & it's not been on the road for years. The paint is kind of OK, but really needs a good deep clean. What's you used & what's you thinks of the current products available on the market?

Depends on how bad the paint is and how far you want to go.
If it's faded/oxidised then best to start of with a machine polish,
As for what Clay bar etc to use there are so many choices but I rate all Bilt Hamber products very highly.

Actually, the paint is in reasonable condition, standing, say, 3-foot away from it all looks ok. No fading to speak of, it's a reasonably modern paint system (audi 1999) so. really just needs a REALLY good clean.
My understanding of M/C polish is it might leave embedded muck in the paint, a claim which most "Bar" vendors use in their sales spiel. How true this is, I can only imagine, I've never clay'd a car...
I've used Bilt gear loads in the past & have never been less than impressed with their product line. They offer a bar, but rather than just going ahead & buying, I always like to get a feel for what other folks have used.

With machine polishing it advised to Clay bar before and after.
The first time I tried a clay bar I was amazed at the results and the amount of crud the was stuck to the paintwork.
It's definitely worth it!

Another vote for the Bilt Hamber clay bar, for wax I usually use Meguiars.

And makes Waxing/Polishing much easier in my opinion.
I use Bilt Hambers Autobalm just make sure you only do a very small area at a time because if it drys too much it can be a bit of a pig to buff.

OK, I'm sold on the BH clay system, however, any idea which "grade" is suitable for what? they sell 3-grades..

Unless the paint is fresh, which it doesn't sound like it is, I would have thought better to get the harder grade. This will remove more 'stuff' but may leave more marring, which will just up how much polishing you have to do after. |

Another +1 for Bilt Hamber, I've had great results with their clay bars.
I also highly recommend the Meguiars 'Quick Clay' kit, very good stuff.

Yep bilthamber for me too, great product and results, I've tried a meguirs one and it just doesn't match up to BH
