Using Old Alloy Wheels, Safe or Not?

How can I check 55 year old alloy wheels are safe to use? Or should I just not bother?

If magnesium then I'd be concerned as they can age badly but not ordinary alloys and simply check, as normal, for excessive corrosion, damage, cracks and such. If they are ultra rare and worth serious money then I suppose you could get them professional crack tested / x rayed if you were worried but not really necessary if they are "ordinary" items and a visual inspection should be sufficient.

I'm curious - what alloys are they? Stick a pic up.

I suppose a good clean then visual inspection . Then maybe tap with something to see if it rings , if its cracked it will not sound right . You could buy a dye penetrant test kit [ three aerosols ] and do it your self if you wanted , that will find any cracks if you follow the insturctions to a T .

Mids 60's would make it 50 years old tho

True if it were a 1965 car. Perhaps I'm being over sensitive being just on the right side of 55.
