Yesterday I noticed the clutch starting to slip on our 54 reg Skoda Fabia 1.4 Tdi. Seeing mileage is 135,000 and it's been abused by my wife with mainly local journeys I find that pretty good seeing it's the original item. What sort of mileages do people get today out of OE clutches as I've had to change them at a fraction of that in the past ?

Original clutch in my dad's Ford Focus which has done about 110,000 miles now, all stop start traffic. The battery however is the original to the car, so has lasted nearly 13 years

When the release bearing started squealing in my Mk3 Cavalier I decided to replace the whole clutch assembly figuring the rest of the clutch wouldn't be far behind.
Removing the old clutch revealed it still had a fair bit of meat left on it. It was a genuine Vauxhall clutch dated 1993 (same age as the car). The car had done 144,000 miles and was 17 years old at the time.

Last I heard my old Passat was up to 165k without a change , for the first 95k it blatted up and down motorways, then I used it to commute and my dad minicabbed it for a bit before selling it to my cousin who had it up until a few years ago

I haven't had to replace a clutch since 1996! (MK2 Cavalier 1600. Half hour job!) That said, the one in the Vitesse now slips a bit if I don't let it engage fully before stamping on the loud pedal. But that's because it's on it's limit of power handling rather than wear

It's actually quite a while since I had to change a clutch as well Mixture of automatics, newer cars, bangers that only last a short time etc means it's something that I've managed to avoid - and aren't complaining !

My Impreza has over 130k on the original clutch, the Skoda Scouts we use at work manage about 30k.

I'm not knowledgeable on these Dual mass setups, but are they more or less robust that the old conventional style ? My limited understanding is that they're less durable. Can anyone enlighten me ?

Can't really comment about dual mass flywheels, but my van has one and the clutch is just now starting to give trouble (only when you boot it), and from the history it looks like its never been done, and has nearly 200,000 on the clock.

From what I've seen at the garages near me, when a clutch goes on a DMF set up, it usually takes the flywheel with it, meaning a repair bill of over £1000! A GRAND to change a clutch! And they call this 'progress'

I only got about 55k out of a Seat Leon turbo from new , and i drove it sensibly as well - i really couldnt work that one out . I put it down to a substandard part that slipped through - like a lot of the rest of the car !

My Fabia VRs managed 140,000 before it's clutch started giving trouble. That was four years of driving instruction in East London, virtually all learner miles. We've just had the clutch and flywheel replaced on Mrs Yellowmini's 350Z (115,000 miles). Nissan wanted £1,000 for the dual mass flywheel on it's own. We imported a single mass Nismo one from America, £550 delivered!

Audi A6 (C4) 2.5TDI. 281k on original clutch and no issues yet. This has a DMF and I understand that the parts cost from Audi for clutch and DMF (which is supposed to be changed with the clutch) is north of £1200 - so I won't be taking that route if it lets go...... It's had a good innings already though.
My Vitesse usually busts the centres of the friction plates before wearing the linings out. That's using a Toyota Hiace friction plate though (it's a W58 gearbox) and I'm hoping the bespoke Helix one that is in there now will do better.

New Skoda Fabia clutch kit has cost me £89 and luckily the 1.4TDi hasn't got a DMF. On my old Peugeot Expert 2.0HDi van the parts alone (kit + new flywheel) were £650 and the 03 reg van was worth less than £1000 so snapped the hand off somebody who offered me £350 when clutch failed.
