Hi Folks,
This is my 1998 BMW 750i. Individual in Barbados Green, with Oxford Green leather. Usual 750 spec also with S EDC and double glazing. I got the original spec from the main dealer and this cost the first owner £75k!
It's not particularly a great example, but I actually wanted this. All my life, I've had low miles, mint, rare, expensive cars. I can't take them to the supermarket in case someone parks next to them. I can't put my beloved dogs in them and go places. I can't go any distance as it would put precious miles on them. Blah blah blah, so I bought a well used example with lots of scratches and dents, rusty bits and character, but mechanically tip top.
Here's how she looked when I bought her. Daft silver lights, wrong wheels, mk2 Nav and wee screen.
Updated. Headlight surrounds painted black. Correct wheels on. Mk4 Nav with big screen and V32 update. Perfect!
Passing dog approval test.
I bought it to drive it, not wrap it in cotton wool and look at it, so lets drive it. Home, to half way down Italy, up to the Czech Republic and back home though Germany.
French Alps and Chamonix.
Mont Blanc on the Italian side.
Italy, San Severino and Pesaro.
Vienna <3
Czech Republic (Don't worry, they are my friends!). This is Prostejov in the east.
Cesky Krumlov near the German border.
Bavaria. Welcome home old friend.
This bridge was NOT for E38's! Breath in!!
Hotel car park in Jena. Another car park built for Yaris's, but we got in and turned.
Hessen.
Hotel car park in Paderborn. Yet another Yaris park. The end of the red line and the column dictates the boundary of the parking space. Hmmm.
On a side note, Bruges was very pretty.
Fortress Calais.
And almost home...
Not too bad for an old school V12. No bluemotion here!
Well. Hope I've not bored you to death here. It really shows you what a nanny police state the UK is. In all that way, 7000km in total, I saw one police car hiding in Bavaria, a few speed cameras in Germany and Italy, but few and really no problem. No traffic jams at all, even through roadworks. I actually saw more police in Calais than I did in the rest of Europe. Then we get off the ferry in Dover, and with the exception of the M6 which was clear, between Dover and Perth, it was camera'd and average speed the whole way. 4am on the M25, light traffic, 3 lanes open, nobody working at all, but the hard shoulder was coned off, so 50mph average speed for mile after mile. I don't know how you London guys can stand it?? Then passing Hamilton, I was stuck in a 2 hour stationary jam. Why? It went into a 50mph 2 lane zone for roadworks. We are so far behind the rest of Europe, it's really sad. Also, as soon as you leave the UK, the limit is 130kph (80mph) everywhere except Germany, which is largely unrestricted. Yet here, its 70 and they still talk about lowering it to 60. Ok, rant over.
Back to the E38's, this thread isn't only for me. Please post all your E38's, whether you own them or just love them. Lots of great cars in Adam's 750i thread, so feel free to post here folks. I can't wait to see them all!
Cheers! :-)
