Found this forum a few weeks ago and love some of the work being done.
Here is my Gt, found in Dallas USA about 20 years ago and imported to the UK as a runner but was pretty rough, but best of all very solid and cheap 800 bucks and about 800 quid to bring it over. My brother lives there and drove it on to a ship in Galveston for me. Then it took me about 10 years get it rebuilt it with a c20xe engine , 5 speed box and respray it, mainly due to lack of money to do it and curse word health.

Sorry bit of trouble with my images. I will keep trying. The engine is a 1.9 cih engine that i got of ebay from a manta a. It was just going to be a simple rebuild until I saw an engine block that someone, apparently a engine tuner from back in the day, had modified to fit a 2.2 crank, Ford transit rods and I think Ford v6 cosworth pistons. I got it all for 50 quid, ebay again, and had the seller remove the internals and send them on. So the block was bored to suit with new bearings and rings as the crank was so good I just reused it. You may notice I fitted a rebuilt 2.4 head from a Frontera. I also decided to go Megasquirt 2 so I fitted the crank timing wheel and sensor to run the ignition. I got a new alternator that is 105 amps and relocated it with a belt tensioner into the space where the removed dizzy went. This was so the eps from a Nova would fit in the engine bay. The A nos piper fast road cam was installed so I had to change back to solid lifters. The exhaust manifold from the 2.4 was installed as it supposedly flows quite well and enables you to fit a wide band sensor for the megasquirt tuning.

another car pic 7x15 inch wheels with 205 50 15, Toyo proxes love the pattern, on front. 8x15 with 225 50 15 on rear, BBS copy only 250 pounds for the set of wheels. Had to fit longer wheel studs as the originals wouldn't fit the new wheels proper soundproofing and heat proofing for the engine bay, interior gets v hot. Soundproof from the builders merchant, much cheaper and has stayed on in over 35 degrees Oil cooler adapter and oil return into sump in case of a turbo, see crank timing wheel and sensor My new back box

Excellent car and story. Reminded me of that great song, you mentioning Galveston! I don't mind the faded paint. Small price to pay for some nice weather!

Well to continue i needed a fuel injection manifold so I could use the ms2. I got a 2.2 manifold but it had very small ports that are actually smaller than the 1.9 and 2 litre manifolds. Those however don't fit straight on as the 2.2 and 2.4 heads are different, the ports were relocated in the later heads. The best known mod is to cut down the Monza or senator 6 cylinder or 3 litre manifold. I did this by welding the front end of the 2.2 manifold to the rear 4 runners of the 6 cylinder. I actually used the sort of ali soldering rods to do this. To get it all hot enough I had to heat the entire thing up on the top of the gas cooker with 3 rings on and a Map gas blowtorch. Would have been easier with oxy or tig but I had neither. I modified the 2.4 fuel rail to fit and removed the regulator as it got in the way. I made a blanking plate then bought this chinese remote adjustable reg off ebay, again, with the added benefit of the fuel pressure gauge. I then fitted lovely pink bosch Audi 1.8 turbo injectors as the 2.4 ones would not be big enough to feed the supercharger or remote turbo I hope to do, eventually. Thats if I can get one to fit. The throttle is from the 2.4 with the plate changed to the slightly freeer flowing 2.2 one. The engine mounts had to be changed to shorter ones so that the manifold will clear the bonnet. Most people just use the front 4 inlet runners from the 6 cylinder manifold to get over this but I think the way I did it enables the use of more of the original fittings, holes without extra welding and drilling. Only 1 bracket was needed to be fabbed up for the throttle cable.

If I can fit the supercharger it should look a little like this. I was thinking of using this merc type but cutting the end chamber off, and the next one down as I think I could make it quite a bit smaller. I don't want to cut into or mod the bonnet though. If I cant I will be going for remote turbo summat like this, but I would cut into the floor space above as there is like a back bench seat with a void underneath. I would like it to have its own oil supply here as well. This is the type I want to use but i have never seen one that has had the rear chambers removed or modded. You can just about see the inlet tubes that will need to be kept and hopefully holes tapped around so I could fit an inlet pipe there. If you have seen it done please send me pics or whatever.

Love the GT, such a fantastic looking car and one I've always wanted. Some great engineering is going into this so bookmarked for more I know of a GT for sale. It is a project and need welding work doing, but because of this it could be a cheep buy. The chap who owns it wants to get rid of it, but can't make his mind up weather to sell as a project or sort it out then sell. If someone offered him cash, I think he would let it go.

Lol, and I'd be very interested but my wife would actually kill me if I bought another project! Thanks for the heads up though.

I took the front suspension apart today so I could strengthen it up for the change to coil over shock instead of the very old fashioned leaf spring. I have a kit off ebay that is actually for a mx5 but I have seen it used before on GT and it converts shocks to coil overs. I have adjustable shocks so this should hopefully work quite well.
I also pulled the tank out today, it actually lives in the rear un opening section of the car. As I'm converting to injection i need to add an inlet and outlet pipe to the bottom of the tank.
Can anyone help me out with some 10 or 15cm long 10mm steel tubing bent to 90 degrees that I could weld in. Of course I will pay for them. Or can some one suggest another method of adding outlet pipes for the fuel. pics to follow
