Oh yeah, and I lowered it! Turned down the front torsion bars til the adjusting bolts were about to snap! And removed the bump stops. Rear end-wise, I made up 4 1/2" lowering blocks. 3 degree taper to correct the pinion angle and 20mm wheelbase increase to account for the change in propshaft angle. It's an insane setup - the handling is a bit, em, "wayward" I'll sort something more permanent sometime... But, damn it looks good!

Then I painted it turquoise and, em "patina'd" it ...I can't give away my secret recipe, but it involves a chopsaw, a sieve, salt and some Scottish weather!

You got skills fella, along with great vision. It's also quite unusual that you've used them on something for yourself as most people I know with similar skills can't be arsed to do something for themselves and just smoke around in an old fiesta or something

So, the work I've done on it so far (the short version anyway... ): The previous owner obviously wanted a 4x4 ...(so why not just buy one? ...weird) Removed all the fake 4x4 stuff ...took it to bits, cut out all the rust and welded in new metal: fake 4WDs and 'real' ones are used for the same thing around here : 'Adventures' to the supermarket and back. Good to see some more pics of the build and the hybrid elements. Like it.

Thanks for the positive comments guys

(Ahem, company car tax breaks...) - Have you ever seen a 4x4 double cab with something actually in the pickup bed?
...whereas mine - as stupidly low and impractical as it looks - is actually used for what it was intended!

Have seen this running about the 3 towns, nice to see something different instead of all the modded boyracer cars straight out the showroom. Looking forward to the next update.

Not so much an update - just a couple of funny pics, as one of my neighbours has a "normal" height Japanese 'ute ...I'd rather scrape! My power steering has now completely stopped working - good riddance! Motoring is now more of a primal experience - having a vehicle that actually fights you is so much more liberating than being cossetted by the technology that makes people fat and lethargic ...I can now go for a drive and end up more physically fit than when I set off

Hi, just been looking at your build and its cracking ? given me some inspiration for my build of a VW Taro which is very similar to your hilux. I don't suppose you still have the original front bumper do you? I'm after the valance of one and it's proving to be a bit difficult to find. Might look in to the surf bumper that you have fitted if I can't find one? I will try and add some pics of my build soon.

Hey Wizzer - cheers mate! Sorry, I've not been on here on ages ...Still got my original bumper & valance - not in the best condition tbh, but you can have them for nothing if you cover the postage! (I'm up in the west coast of Scotland).
Get some pics of your project up - I'd love to see it!

Seen a lot of those 4x4 pieces on off the showroom models usually installed to accommodate wider tyres on the top of the range 2x4 models my SRX came with 4x4 front fenders and a 4x4 bin. LOL I ripped all the chrome bits off and binned them for plain Jane bits chrome starts looking a bit tacky after a couple of stone strikes. Guess Toyota changes specs for different countries.Still one of the cheapest vehicles to run. Parts are dirt cheap and plentiful. Pity the hi rider doesn't go as weĺl on its roof as it does on its wheels LMAO

So it now sits like this: ...in fact, that pic was taken on the high end of a kerb ...and it's settled a bit more since, so it's actually a bit lower
