Just recently bought one and after hunting around I found one at reasonable price in the range
The do 2 different sizes and the bigger one is 49.99 and other is 34.99 which is what I got
Can't fault the jump pack at all however the built in compressor isn't really much to write home about as started smoking after 2nd wheel

Some great info, thanks for the replies. I'm gonna spend some time having a good read on reviews tomorrow and order a small lithium ion jobbie.

I've bought one of those DB Power ones from Amazon. They get real good reviews and the one I received is solid, remarkably small but seems really well made etc. Will it work ? Well the first time I get a flat battery, if I get a flat battery, then i'll know I guess.
My last experience with a 'booster' like this was an old Kingavon one back in the early 90s. It was heavy. It was useless, as even when it was supposedly fully charged and connected up it was just like hooking up a flat battery to your car's flat battery. Click-click-click-click-click.......

I bought a set of 3000F ultracapacitors. Put 'em in a box, add a heavy Anderson connector via some 50mm welding cable, and a little momentary push switch to a volt meter, and a nice long pair of leads (Anderson, welding cable, and a pair of honking gurt Russian crocodile clips) and there you have it. Starts our 4l telehandler 8 or 10 times, recharges in about 4 mins from any running vehicle, and weighs maybe 6kg. Will put up a couple of photos at some stage if you want. Got any more details on this? How do you control the output?

You don't need any control, just as with a battery the starter draws what it needs. Got the ultracaps from eBay, just search for ultracapacitor. You could use much smaller ones for a car.

Just get a type 096/100 battery and keep it charged. Jump packs won't work on a completely flat battery, they'll work on one that needs a bit of help but a flat battery the can't help. Problem is that they're rated a different way to regular car batteries so when they brag about 1000amps, thats equiv to a 300A battery off a 1.4 astra. Also when you're trying to start a car with a flat battery the flat battery tries to take all of the current, as a result non gets to the starter. Depends what jump pack you have, my Snap-On one hasn't failed me even started large engine cars with a battery reading less than 2volts.
