I think the look I'm after is actually already there it's just that with so many people disliking it I'm now doubting myself! I think that sentence speaks volumes. Whatever you choose to do I'm looking forward to more progress. Great work and skills so far.

Yeah, just get on with it Simon, go with your vision! (but be warned I may just bring some white and pink vinyl to apply whilst you're asleep in your tent at the Gathering).

Ade; As long as you take some decent before and after pics and don't scratch it then that's fine. (although whoever put the <-DIVERSION-> sticker on the back window got it squint so I'm not holding out much hope of a good job here!)

I so want a Lada now. I like what you've done with the rear lights - its different and grows on you. In my head mk1 cortina tail lights would work as they would mirror the fronts. I'm looking forward to the finished article.

The rear panel is going back to green and the lights are staying. I do have another plan to change the look slightly but will reveal if it works. In the meantime here it is with a black rear panel. It does look a bit better in the picture than real life but it just doesn't work with the overall feel of the car. It would probably be ok with heavy black stripes down the side but I'm not going in that direction. I wasn't going to post these pictures incase everyone liked it but may as well! I'm glad I've now seen this as it's one thing less to wonder about. I thought it would grow on me but it just hasn't. Looks worse every time I see it.

I'm not a fan of the black rear end either, it looks a bit heavy for my liking... too much black. Looking forward to the next instalment though!

Too heavy is the perfect description. It would work well with black vinyl or big bump strips on the sides but it just doesn't flow as is.

Personally,I like it. I'm not 100% sure what has to 'flow' on a 60s box design? Sure, it would never work on a jelly mould Sierra but on a 60s Fiat/Lada it works way better IMHO. That colour change of the panel used to be done to pleny of cars in years gone by, normally after having the rust spots sanded down............ Those lights smack of 1960s, a nod to the cars design era. The whole look of the car is 'heavy' its a lumbering Lada! The other thing is its different to the other modded Ladas out there, individuality is king, right? Just my thoughts.

Always had a soft spot for Ladas and this one is definitely doing it for me. Top work!

lol, I have a feeling there's nothing lumbering about it, my feeling is that it's probably more like a landspeed Lada

Lumbering? They're the lightest f-r cars out there, 850kg stock!

Lumbering? They're the lightest f-r cars out there, 850kg stock! The 'look' just the 'look!!' Actually, I used to use my Dads one when I was a young man with a broken car and that could crack along very well indeed. Only 850kg is a bit of surprise tho.........!

Just found this - very impressive work there. Well done!
I like what you've done with the rear lights - except the last bit with the black rear end - the matching body colour works best in my eyes. They're really growing on me because it says everything that needs to be said about what you're looking to achieve with the car. Unique but subtle.
And I'm kind of having strange thoughts about enjoying reading about a Lada....

I like the overall look of the Lada, but to me, the rear lights look too small, especially with the rather dominant number plate.

Just put some turquoise stripes on that black panel and it will work better look wise. Fancier would be a gradient pattern like this.

Glad that's not staying, black rear end looks awful!
Sticker application was done whilst a tad intoxicated I think, lol.
Air will make this car epic. Do hope that part of the plan happens.

I really like this....a bit unsure about the rear lights but, it is your car. The Golf front though, looks superb. Harks back to the car's Italian origins.
I tend to like when modded Ladas lean towards the more desirable Fiats of the 60s and 70s, such as the Mirafiori or 125, as it was spawned from the 124 Berlina. Would you ever consider a 131-based look, orange paint, black stripes etc?
What plans do you have engine-wise? I know the Fiat twink is the obvious transplant...Apparently you can get decent performance from the stock engines, can't remember where I read it but I know there was one guy (Finnish I think) who with a bit of old-fashioned balancing and porting, got the 1.5L engine running 100+ bhp and really running smooth - they're OHC for a start.

Yeah, in my mind the black looked awesome, but on the tin it looks so so. Props for actually doing it just to see how it turned out, point proved.
