Hello
I've been an occasional reader of this forum for some years now. I thought I'd share my current car project, which coincidentally is my only car project so far. I've worked on some motorcycles before. Well I guess the 127 is a good choice for a first touch.
I bought it in 2011 when I was 19, if i recall for just 200 euros on an online auction site. I don't know what hit me but I pretty much had to have it. I've always had a thing about small, especially Italian, cars. Anyway, it was in quite a sorry state. Not totally eaten away by rust however, just the usual floor panels, wheel arches etc that needed to be raplaced:
It didn't look good but as far as Fiats go it could definetly have been worse. Early next year, 2012 winter, I sent the body shell to the welders. All the rotten spots got changed or patched. Wheel arches were fitted from a Golf Mk1 so the body is now wider. After all that the car actually sat like this for around 2.5-3 years. This picture is taken last year just before heading to the paint prep works:
The reasons beeing mostly my conscription and university studies that didn't leave much spare time for hobbies like this. The engine was previously removed and the top end was overhauled. The engine isn't original to the car, it's from an early 127 so it has a bit more power. During the years I didn't have much time to work on the car I still could order various things for it, which now seems more like a truckload of stuff.
Since the body was welded wider I searched for some better suited wheels for the car. I got lucky and found some Cromodora CD92's which were already media blasted. I just had to powdercoat them gunmetal grey. Also to make it sit better a 35mm lowering kit, originally for A112, was ordered.
After what seemed too long, the car was finally back from the paint shop this summer:
I didn't waste too much time starting to put it all back together, so in went the engine:
During the last months I've assembled most of the car, with just some of the wiring and interior trim left to do:
Just a nice touch .
Since it's already winter over here I have the next 4-5 months to tinker with it. A project like this never gets completely done but the goal is to get it on the streets in springtime. After what by then is almost 5 years.
Well that's a quick overlook of the works on my 127, if You have any questions about the car please feel free.
