Damn, was just getting settled into this thread! I have been spoiled by the other 20+ page threads on here. This is showing so much promise!
Really liking the car, the wheels are really nice, think the staggered set up will look the nuts!

Nice work! I had compomotives on my old Dolly Sprint and same centre cap issue. As a stop gap I found the lids from marmite jars were a perfect fit. Plastic orange ones, and slid nicely in. Painted up they looked pretty good:

Pipe end caps also work for centre caps.

Thanks for the replies guys. Turns out the centre caps actually fitted the rears ok, I only tried the front... Got 2 for the front coming from Compomotive, spoke to a really helpful guy called Barry there. Score 1 for a proper British company looking after 40 year old wheels. In other news, found this photo on an old resto thread on the Dolomite forum Taken in the 70's, when one of the previous owners used it for hill climbing in Scotland. Actually the coolest photo ever (well to me anyway!). Would love to know where it was taken, apparently around Stirling somewhere, so if anyone has experience of 40 year old Scottish hill climbing and can work out where it was taken please let me know!

It's home! The guys at Restoshack have done an amazing job, photos to come soon, the exhaust is blowing badly and I've just driven it 4 hours home so straight in the garage it's going.

Dave and the crew at Restoshack do amazing work, did a top job on my Sapporo. I wouldn't give it to anyone else to work on.

What a brilliant find, looks like it has just launched to judging by the raised stance and the gap to the wheel chock, this car must have an interesting past.

Very productive this week of doing stuff, if not taking any actual photos of it. New wheels are fitted, unfortunately the front centre caps still aren't right, so will have to speak to Compomotive again, they've been dead helpful so far. Not the end of the world but would be nice to get some. Exhaust leak fixed by replacing the downpipe. As usual with anything exhaust related on my cars it was a complete pain in the rear, but thanks to the really helpful guy at the local Powerflow dealer that reflared the end of my centre pipe for absolutely nothing! Fixed the fuel leak that was dripping onto the chafed and shorted out over drive wiring, that has also been repaired. That could have been nasty! Glad I had to get it in the workshop to have a look at the downpipe otherwise this may have go unoticed and ended as a far bigger, fiery proplem. The leak was from the float chamber, something a £2 ebay seal fixed much to my delight. Removed the front bumper, replaced the number plates with older (and marginally legal) black and silver plates and stuck on my Retrorides and Restoshack sticker. And all I got was this lousy photo. Still looks pretty badass to me though.

This is my recently purchased Dolomite Sprint. I've been a member for a while on here (and attended the last 2 Retro Rides Gatherings) but have never had anything retro-enough to warrant getting properly involved, I intend to change this! I have been wanted something properly retro for a while now but have always been a put off by lack of reliability and my very average skills with the oily bits. However as my 2 car fwiends have now both got Mk1 Golf GTi's they are restoring ready for next year I felt I needed to up my car game. So after 5 years of owning my MX5, including 2 2500+ mile pan-European roadtrips, I decided to sell up and move on. This is how it looked went it was sold: I'd learnt alot on this car and carried out most of the mechanical work myself (or with mates) including installing and tuning a Megasquirt ECU, and although not alot would be transferable to something old it had given me enough confidence that I could maintain something to a reasonable standard by myself! I am however dreading the potential unreliability of 70's British motoring, as the MX5 was absolutely faultless all the time I had it. So onto the Dolomite. She's a '74 in Sapphire Blue that I understand to be a fairly rare colour. Was completely restored 5 years ago and has been looked after fairly well since, although does need some TLC to the bodywork in places. Interior is pretty immaculate, and goes really well. I was a bit worried about the 150 mile trip back from Wolverhampton where I bought it from, but after getting used to 70's brakes and wind noise I was pleasantly surprised at how well it drove. So here it was as I bought it a couple of months ago: Stunner!

Lovely cars. I'm sure my mum had a Dolomite Sprint in azure blue?? Shame she got rid of it. Tried to turn it on one morning and it had died. Not sure it had anything to do with the dead rat in the wheel arch or the hedgehog that had found it's way into the back seats........

The downside of spending a fortune on paintwork is you should really look after it, which means more time and money! Carried out my first ever waxing today, bought me some of this: The did me some of this: Foolishly, no after photo. Carried out an oil change and filed some of the inner NSR arch back as it was rubbing badly over big bumps, the inner skin was sticking out way further from the outer for some reason. Will give it a good hard run tomorrow to confirm all is rosy and then get some underseal on it to protect the shiny exposed metal. Went to a great little meet Thursday night near Horsham, which was found via the events section of here. This car is so fun to drive and it gave me a great opportunity to really stretch it's legs a bit. To continue with my theme of really crappy photos, here's the only one of my car I took from the evening, and can't find any from anyone else either! I've discovered that I'm an idiot and have to work next Saturday morning, so won't get my place on the infield at Players Classic as will be turning up after 12. The plan is go for a good jaunt through Sussex afterwards though, so may take some photos...
