So just a little bit away from this thread is The 2015 Nominations thread19 have made suggestions in one way or another. We have over 38,000 members on here based on that it's 0.0005% of the forum users We've had 1,100 members on line today based on that it's 0.02% of the members Right now there are 100 members on line!!! We kicked around a few ideas last year to try and improve participation and maybe it bumped the nominations thread and encouraged some participation or maybe it cluttered it up and made it look busier than it actually was..... So genuine question - If you haven't stuck a nomination in - what stops you doing it? If I haven't put a reason up that fits - shout it out and I'll add it (no I won't cos it won't let me!!) Oh and feel free to open up discussions in this thread

I nominated for the first time last year and it was your own comment on the fact that you'd missed the sweetpea MR2 thread that made me realise that it actually has a completely separate yet parallel function to that of just awards. Like you, I found some threads nominated that I'd missed, which is easy to do, especially if your bookmarks are busy. So I look at the exercise as one of just maybe getting pointed in a direction I hadn't noticed before and, generally, enjoy the board the better for it!

I nominated for the first time last year and it was your own comment on the fact that you'd missed the sweetpea MR2 thread that made me realise that it actually has a completely separate yet parallel function to that of just awards. I make a point of checking out any threads that are nominated - because sometimes threads pass me by - I hope other members do check out nominated threads too Like you, I found some threads nominated that I'd missed, which is easy to do, especially if your bookmarks are busy. So I look at the exercise as one of just maybe getting pointed in a direction I hadn't noticed before and, generally, enjoy the board the better for it! Agreed RR is better for it but as the board has grown - the nominations threads and the voting in the awards has actually decreased in participation Now you could look at it in terms of this social media world and say the format is outdated and behind the times so this is a discussion thread on how we can bring it up to date? Now you can't improve something if you don't know what is "wrong" with what you have (when I say wrong I mean "lacks appeal")

I simply haven't given it enough thought yet! Ok good point - would a fixed deadline help? Have the thoughts that you have had lent in any direction towards nominating even one catagory? Does the sheer number put you off - ie you feel you have to nominate in all catagories?

Of course it could be that all your favorite threads have been nominated and so no need to contribute - just wait for the voting booth to open
But what about you next best favorite thread - that could be someone else's new favorite thread

How to do links - helpful threadHowever none of that is really needed - if you post a user name and the car that's enough clues for the team who put the "awards threads" together to find it and if we couldn't well I'm pretty sure someone would ask you!

A deadline may help some, but I notoriously leave everything until the last minute.
And I also feel the need to consider every catagory.
However, I will get around to it this week. Pinky Promise.

I haven't scratched the surface of what there is here. I don't know a fraction of the cars. I've read some threads but there's too much to read for the time i can browse the site. So how can i vote on things like my favorite cars/threads on here? I think it's for people who are a bit more.. involved.
There is a 'secondly'. The incestuous thing. I listen to music. I like music. I do not like music awards ceremonies. People do what they wanna do. And that's great. And if others like it, well that's great too. But the brownie-points concept is everything wrong with the scene, and i don't know if this is much different.
I think i'll stick to browsing forums, finding stuff i like, and adding any support i can if relevant. But this sort of thing.. yeah, no.

This is a great forum with excellent content and a variety that isn't available anywhere else. Threads about 30's rods next to 90's stanced Japanese stuff! In my opinion the awards don't bring anything extra to the forum.

Reasons against: - *refer to mikeymk 's comment
- Sheer amount of content to get through to give everyone a fair chance.
- I have bad memory so stuff that happened in February doesn't get a fair chance.
- The 'forum person of the year' always feels awkward to me because I don't know many forum people. Also I'm sure many people do great things for 'our' forum without me even knowing about it.
Reasons For: - I find new great threads I have missed via the nominations/awards
- It gives the winners (and nominees) recognition for their forum input, making them likely to keep on contributing.
On balance I think its good to have a yearly round up so I have cast my nominations. -Steve-

My thoughts on this are that as mentioned, there are a vast quantity of things on here I have no idea about. Readers other mods for one is a forum that I couldnt begin to throw a nomination forward for, and I have voted where possible.
Something I would suggest, based on the fact that everyone seems to be nominating the same threads (its a nomination here, not a vote!) is the option to nominate your own threads based on the above point. My only reservation is the slightly narcissistic Facebook-esque feel to that, but its the only way I can think to broaden the nominations for those who haven't the time to browse to the extent some of the hardcore users do.
At the end of the day, a self nominated thread would only win if everyone voted for it, so there would be little harm in doing so if it increased diversity in the nominations...

Yeah, what mikeymk said really. I don't spend enough time on here to have a hope of making a reasonable judgement, that and I'm not really that fussed...

Two (certainly wrong) reasons for my not voting yet: 1/ it takes a good while to research the entire year's thread and compile a list of the worthiest ones, and I haven't taken that time just yet and 2/ having been on the forum for four years I tend to follow few threads, often ones that have been going on for years so either awarded or nominated already.
I'll do it tonight, I'm actually looking forward to it!

i had a quick look through the thread and everything in my mind was allready nominated, so didn't feel the need to do it again.

Again I agree on the issue of memory etc.
There are loads of threads, builds, event reports I've enjoyed over the year, a lot of whom I can't remember their names or where to find the threads on the forum. Those that I can remember have already been nominated in some capacity.
I don't think it would be fair to nominate just the most recent threads/ builds/ most active posters just because it's easier to read back through their things because it wouldn't represent the "best" of the forum.
