I'm trying to find a throttle cable like this for my new old car and I need your help! It looks like an EXTREMELY generic part, I don't have the patience to order one from abroad at a ridiculous premium and wait a month... also I don't really want to pay the premium associated with the car is going on If anyone can recognise it from something that might actually be available like a golf/escort/corsa or something that I can adapt I would truly appreciate it.

just a suggestion, but giving a length required may help. also make and model of your car, as you said it may share that part with a host of other cars.
but good look work the search. maybe worth looking on evilbay for some dirt cheap throttle cables and seeing if you can make them fit

I'm looking on evilbay aleady, as for the length, I'm unsure as I havent measured it.
Right hand drive, carbs are on the left side of the car so a metre+ in length at a guess as it needs to go through the bulkhead and cross the engine.
It's an old Nissan (1972), I could make something myself using a universal kit, however I'd rather find something a bit more permanent.

The black piece on your pic reminded me of the bit on my MGB throttle cable where it goes through the bulkhead Is also a RHD car with carbs on the left side so probably the right length? The ends of the cable would probably need some adaptation mind

If you log onto Firstlines online catalogue there are lots of pictures of the cables they do. Might help track down what it's off of. As there are real adjustment nuts on the end I would say carbs, Webers, SU's or similar. I will have a look in a mo but here is the link to the log in page www.firstline.co.uk/lm5/fl_login.php?reason=no_access&origin=../ts4/makes.php&query_string=This isn't as helpful as I remembered as you need to enter the car model to get any info up, bring back paper catalogues I say ! If you can get a look at a paper catalogue they usually have pictures or drawings to help identify the parts in the back.

Any more details than 1972 Nissan (model of car maybe), as I have a few bits I have picked up in job lots of car parts over the years, and might have something.

Hi, You've asked for a throttle cable for your car and say you think it is largely a generic part, to be fair a lot of them are similar because they do the same job. You then proceed to show more items that might do, whilst being very guarded about what car it is actually for. A '72 Nissan is not much help. As you don't have a pattern doesn't exclude Speedy cables from supplying one as Fordperv suggests. So you need to measure the outer cable length, select the end fittings, and the inner cable terminations from the menu. A sketch would help as well as they suggest. If you tell them what it's for they may already have details in there library. - www.speedycables.com/specify_control_cable.html Good luck. Colin

In-between moments at work, I've found it seems to be almost identical to an early 300zx throttle cable.

I've modified a Citroen Saxo cable to work Honda CBR carbs in my VW Polo, pretty much anything can be made to fit - you're gonna have a job finding something non-standard that'll fit straight on without modification.
Best bet is to go to a breakers and have a look around.

Because I don't have one if you have any spare string or wire cables why not mock on up to get some measurements?

Because I don't have one if you have any spare string or wire cables why not mock on up to get some measurements? I plan to over the weekend. I posted the picture incase anyone instantly recognised it to be a shared part with another familiar vehicle or better still, have something similar knocking about in the shed.

Try Catton Cables Birmingham, we regularly get cables made up for obscure aiport vehicles (plane tugs, hydraulic steps etc) and they are pretty quick and very reasonable costwise.

If you still have the outer cable then a visit to your local bicycle shop should see a cable with those ends in you pocket for a few quid.
