Ah! I see you also have the MPFI spider intake from 87-up! Thats a good thing, those are the final reincarnation of the engine and not only look the best but also go the best Be sure to have the heads pressure checked, they LOVE to crack between the valve seats (which can be fixed of left alone, its not that bad) or crack into the exhaust ports (which means it's time for a new head). The heads will be stamped EA82T which can be underlined, boxed or nothing at all, if I recall, the boxed ones are the best, they are a post production update as a replacement head and seem to be stronger. Have you checked the turbo? If it has any play in it, I seem to recall it uses the same core as ford probe and CX500 (YES motorcycle!), the RHB5 or something like that. You could also upgrade to a TD04 but thats another story The engine looks really great all painted up! Just remembered something, between the cam carrier and head is a rubber o-ring, this MUST be a metal reinforced O-ring, a normal one gets blown out. Best bet is to order it from the dealer.. I mean, harass your parts guy Fel-pro offers an engine rebuild gasket set, very complete and high quality, it's also a perma-torque head gasket which is nice.

The '80s on four wheels. Great design but looks like a long haul resto. As you're in the Subaru bosom you've got a better chance of finding the last of the parts! I looked up the 'weird dashboard' as suggested by dikkehemaworst . Do you have this? Looks nice - like a spaceship - but quite a lot to go wrong I reckon! Good luck. This looks a lot like the dash in my first car:

I have heard of the cracks in the heads but its a good thing a have 3 complete engines xD, my turbo is completly dead its cracked 3 places in the exhaust housing and the wastegate arm is snapped, so I'm planning on going to use the TD05-16G or a TD04.

LOVE this thread!
I had a Subaru XT Turbo as my first ever car! I wasn't able to drive it - as a 17 year old in the UK with a Turbo Subaru, insurance was an issue!!! But I had a great time driving it around fields with my dad, even got it sideways a few times. Then had to join reality and got a 1.0 Vauxhall Corsa!
I let the car go for a criminally low price. It was a two-tone car Blue, with a white lower half, and I believe it was on a C-Reg. This was probably around 2004 or 2005. Hopefully its one of the very few still on the road in the UK. I will track down a pic if possible.
Keep up the good work. Not the easiest car to work on I expect, so good luck!

Yeah the Blob eye is mine. Not many people consider it Retro, so I haven't posted anything about it on here! But I'm planning to start working on my Mk2 Fiesta soon. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Would be great to see a restored XT back on the road, its such a genuinely rare car. I look forward to some pics of that some time in the future
