My first project thread, so bear with me.. Here it goes.
I have been always into a "sleeper" thing. My grandfather used to own a tuned Mini when i was young. That's where it got me. I liked the 205 GTI, Corolla GTi, Kadett GSi, 5GT Turbo and so on.. Although i have been driving big american muscle cars and stuff like that mostly.
Now before you say there isn't a Mk. 2 Fiesta RS. Read this.
I was searching online for a while, i sold my 1996 Chrysler Stratus couple weeks before that. Passed the Fiesta's ad couple times, price was high and didn't interest me that much. One evening i was sitting on my phone again, checking out for sale section and bam. Seller had dropped the price much better for me, and i called him. It had MOT to almost next summer, and it verifyed me. Arranged a time to go see the car with my friend.
We got there, chatted with the seller. He told me that this was a real RS. Story goes somehow like this. Ford's importer Oy Ford Ab, took a new 1.4 CL Fiesta, put on a RS bodykit with RS steering wheel and there it was. Mk. 2 Ford Fiesta RS. Ford headoffice got to know what was going on at Finland, and said that they couldn't do a RS with no performance improvement. Not many were produced.
I took it for a test drive and now i had to have it. It has approx 49.000 km on the odometer, which could stand up. It is mostly rust free, and has been rust-prevented as new. Poly-urethane bushings at rear, rear swaybar, lowering kit, 14x? Mondeo wheels and too big winter tyres which rub at the front in full steering lock.
Engine consist of a Sierra 1.6 CVH block and head, the original 1.4 CVH intake and 28/30 DMTF Weber.
It has had a 34 DMTR, with that it has been dynoed for 106 HP and 155Nm around 4500 rpm.
I'm baffling between a new weber carburetor, Zetec or EFI CVH swap. The carburetor is no good. Most of the time secondary barrel doesnt function properly, or idle is missing. Which leads to this.
Well, while it doesnt work properly i can do something with it.
Fitted Hella Jumbo 220 lights.
The previous owner has used it to run timeattack events, so it's registered to 2. Rear seat is not usable at all otherwise.
Sound deadning out of here. (It'll get new one.) I'm planning on a kind-of Fiesta Van, but with windows. So plywood to substitute rear seats and trunk board. Much more usable to carry around curse word that way. Nothing will be customised so it can always be modified to original.
And i had to get rid of the fugly CL sidemoulding (is it the correct term?)
The bodywork is really rubbish. It's full of cracks and been painted with brush. Paint it with new coat of RS White someday. Maybe.
Oh yeah, and the exhaust pipe has broken once again. Doh.
Got hands on a set of 14 RS aluminium wheels from Mk. 3 Escort, will try to buy them.
And the rubbing problem in front, i have a pair of 165/65/14 and will try those instead of 185/65/14.
Oh, since i've bought this i have been looking for a decent Mk. 1 because... well... Two of these cand be fitted in place of one american full-sizer.
This thread will be updated frequently (i hope), but theres gonna be a bunch of american car stuff, and british sports cars from work. Apologizeing the few shaky pictures, but i don't have the Canon at garage all the time.
Cheers from Finland, Viljami.
