IT LIVES!!
I changed the plugs and leads today, it sprang in to life so quickly that at first I didn't realise why it had stopped turning over! lol
I haven't changed the dizzy cap or rotor arm as both of the pairs I have bought this week have been too small. I'm struggling to get the right one for an SPi K-Series.
I'll leave it a few days before I try it again, in the hope I haven't just "un-disturbed" something.

That's great news. I do hope it isn't something intermittent...they're horrible to diagnose As for the leads, I'm 98% sure whatever the manufacturers say there is no difference between SPI and MPI HT leads. The difference will be it depends where the coil is situated: on the wing as a 'Coke can' style or on the the back of the engine as a 'coil pack' design. Obviously the later engine design in the 25/45 and ZR/ZS had COP without the distributor but even the most numpty of motor factors would struggle to be so stupid as to try and sell you those for a car with a distributor!!

When I took the wrong bits back, they couldn't really suggest an alternative either! I'll just keep it clean for now. The plugs I put in had a visibly smaller gap than the ones I took out aswell. I didn't re-gap them so I don't know if that was a factor aswell? It had run for a while on the old plugs.

I threw a few hundred at the MGF before changing the ignition system - inlet, cat, ECU, junction box. When it finally broke down, the AA man said it was the rotor arm, and he had one in his van (which cost us £5).

Strange how it can happen sometimes hey?
Many years ago my friend parked up across my garage, spent the evening doing something and when he came to leave a few hours later the car wouldn't start. Turned out to be the coil, car just turned off and would not start again due to this dead coil. For no obvious reason it just wouldn't work.
Can cause some right agro when trying to diagnose a fault.

Yepp, I didn't want to rely on "just bump it" as the previous owner had lol
I left it a week in the garage untouched and it fired up without issue this afternoon. If I get rid of my Jag this weekend then it will be put into service!
