A quick update on whats been happening with the 5 Its been a bit challenging of late, had big delays with getting the front bumper back and also been getting a bit bored with the speed (or lack of) of the car... but I'm still soldiering on with it So since the Mazda is in bits, I had to prep the 5 for the Gathering, I had planned to fit the yellow high beams and the hids but in the end I just ended up doing the latter. Not the most exciting job in the world but I did try to make a neat job of it at least They're 3000k's which give off a yellow-y light which should work with my plans. Annoyingly, one of the hids blew the day after I fitted them so I'm having to try and get a free replacement, although the sets are so cheap, I might just buy another pair Anyway, I chucked a bucket of water over it, met up with Matt and got both '34s to the Gathering Anyone who saw it there may have seen my half baked attempt to hide the white roof rails where the powdercoat has peeled off But once the Mazda is back together I'll whip the roof rails off this and give them a proper paint. Other stuff that is coming; I've had confirmation that work is happening on the front bumper but its hard going due to the amount of filler in it :/ but I'll get that back and do the swap. I'll also find a way of changing the main beams at the same time Also.. I finally tracked down a sport rear bumper!!! Its Avus Blue, grubby, a bit scratched and missing a towing eye cover but I've finally got one I'll give it a good clean up before finding somewhere to get it painted in Oxford Green. I'll also use the opportunity to paint the parking sensors satin black to blend in on the rubbing strip. Those are the main jobs I've got to do on the car at the moment but I have some other potential stuff in the pipeline.. Firstly having the sport rear bumper is going to make the exhaust look silly so I'll find a sporty backbox with the appropriate sized tip (heh) and get the bonus of some extra sound. I think the stance of the car could do with a bit of a tweak also, a bit more poke on the wheels and something like a 15-20mm drop on the rear suspension. Another thing thats actually functional and should be sorted sooner rather than later is the steering wheel wobble I'm getting while braking. I think this might be related to the fair amount of play in the steering which I'll try to adjust out first. Plenty to keep me busy

Front bumper is in primer!! I may finally have it back soon.. Also pictures of the rear bumper which was in desperate need of a jet wash as there was a fair amount of mud and moss in it Just need to buy a towing eye cover for it and I can find somewhere to get it painted (feel like trying a different body shop if anyone near Cov has any recommendations?..) Also have located a set of staggered style 16's which I think I'll be buying so I can put the rear 9's on this to beef up the stance (along with lowering the back a little and some minor spacing if required) So things are slowly coming together

Gorgeous, gorgeous car. Just sat and read the whole thread whilst my OH watched Strictly etc.
Love what you've done and are doing to it. I've had 2 tourings and, to me, there's just something right about the shape/practically of an estate. Probably due to me learning to drive in my dad's Triumph 2000 estate!

Thank you It certainly looks better in photos from a distance Yeah I totally love the practicality, the ability to be able to chuck most stuff in the boot without thinking about it, or folding down the seats and getting even more in. Like when I went to help Rafftank collect an E36 interior today.. There was even more in there but we started unloading before I remembered to get a picture haha Nice car, in recolour, nice spec, and great work so far! Cheers The spec may be improving even more soon as I'm off to relieve a breaking 525i of its HVAC air con system... Going to be quite a task but I've seen that my car has the wiring in the engine bay at least for AC so I'm very keen to make use of it! At the rate I'm going I should have waited and bought a higher spec E34 to start with, but I'm invested in this one now so I'll just make it the best I can

Been busy buying more bits for the 520i... wasn't it supposed to be just a tat hauler daily? Anywho, took a quick drive down to Bicester last week to meet up with a guy who had many lovely E34 M5's and a pretty awesome 540i touring in black on black! He also had a rather tatty looking 525i touring which was being broken for parts, crucially it had AC With one of us working on the interior and one on the exterior, we made pretty short work of getting most of the major components of the AC system out. I will need to get a new condenser (a good idea in any case), and I'll need to find an AC electric fan but I've got most of the bits I need to eventually retrofit AC to my car Here you can see the heater box and other AC bits in my exhaust-less RX7 which is currently acting as a mobile shed :/ To change the heater box, I'm going to have to take most/all of the dash off which is making me think I could do a black interior conversion at the same time as I'm really not a massive fan of the grey interior. Which rather leads on to today's impulse buy.... Saw these pop up on ebay while I was doing some searching at lunch, they were on for a good price (about half of another set on ebay at the moment) and there was an option to put a best offer in, I put in a pretty low offer as I only half wanted them. Next thing I know, the offer has been accepted So a quick trip to Birmingham this evening has yielded these A pair of black leather E34 sports seats in remarkably good condition! I really prefer the styling of these over the standard seats and the side bolstering is great. In time I'll source the rest of the bits I need for a full black interior, hardest bit will probably be getting the rear bench and boot bits as the black leather seems to be a rarer option in tourings than saloons Oh and I'm still meant to be picking up a staggered set of Style 16s this weekend.. The 520i is certainly getting treated this month

If you ever need wipers, Halfords don't do a drivers side one, and the passenger one they say fits doesnt curve with the glass properly. oddly, they don't list the direct fit specific to E34 Bosch 602S set that GSF got in for me the same day. I got hold of a wiper linkage assembly quite some time ago for mine, took it apart and am in the process of re-bushing it, then I can finally drop the passenger arm back down  are you grey seats going begging soon?

Yeah I found that as well, I think I ended up getting the E34 specific Bosch set from ECP in the end. Wiper linkage is another thing I need to sort out while the dash is out for the AC swap, I need to do some research into how to go about re-bushing them as my passenger wiper clonks the bonnet if I use the fastest wiper speed (I haven't bothered to clock the arm higher yet haha) The grey seats will be up for sale at some point, once I locate some black rear seats to replace them with

I've got this far, phosphor bronze oilite bushes off ebay, the larger one needs a millimetre taking off the o.d but a mate has a lathe, they're too long which is ideal as the originals aren't and leave a few unworn areas of shaft, probably £6 of bushes. 2016-09-28_10-55-45 by WELSHPUG, on Flickr

Re boot trim. You could dye your existing fabric trim and headlining etc. I've used auto glym black dye before, dead easy and covers really well. I've also sprayed the plastics black before....mixed results there though.

I've never really tried it myself But then again as sumpcracker said in his E34 thread, there are so many of them being broken for spares at the moment, I'm sure a touring with black interior will pop up sooner rather than later!

Yeah very durable mate, my only issue was the painted plastics but I think that was more down to poor prep.
Like you said though, a black one will be along soon enough.

welshpug seconded for some bushes I've looked into doing this myself as well - without having the tools yourself it seems a bit of a pain!

To continue the theme of me buying things for the '34.. A slight case of deja vu... But staggered this time! going to drop them off somewhere to be blasted and powdercoated then will quickly get some new rear tyres and get them on the car, need to sell off the set of 8's to make my money back!

adam73bgt I think your signature needs changing.... The MG is definitely now a long term project, and the BMW seems to be exclusively for hauling BMW parts

Little update time as things are happening First off, got the wheels dropped off down the refurbers to get tidied up and done the same colour as the ones on the car The 8's are ready to be sold once I get the other pair off the car, and I got the 9's fitted with new tyres yesterday All ready to go on but not fitted just yet as I've been rather busy moving house My current arrangement of living in a 3rd floor flat just isn't conducive to getting work done on the cars (The long exhaust change job on the RX7 and the rather stalled MG restoration are prime examples ) So I've now found a place with not only a driveway but a garage too Exciting times as I should hopefully be able to get all the cars in one place again The BMW is doing most/all of the moving, so having to hold off on doing any mods to it just for the moment lol. But that hasn't stopped me buying/preparing mods Was up in Newcastle last weekend for the football and a chance read of a 5 forum post turned up a black leather rear seat for a touring in the North East.. Well since they're so rare and I was in the area, I could hardly turn up that opportunity Still a way to go on the black interior bits but I'm chipping away at it Also this happened.. At long last! I have a Sport bumper, back in my possession and in Oxford Green (Yeah I still don't have the front one yet but thats another story for another day.. Once the house move is all sorted over the next couple of weeks, these bits can work their way onto the car
