Lots done today Made up the new inlet manifold which took a few hours. Quite pleased with how it turned out considering I was using flux cored wire in the mig (windy outside) Lick of high temp paint to protect the mild steel flanges and wrapped as it will be quite close to the exhaust And all fitted. It went really smoothly in the end, glad I took to time to measure everything up properly. I had also tacked the flanges to a large piece of box section during fabrication to make sure that they stayed flat to each other. Carb is now a lot lower And the bonnet fits! Doesn't sound too bad either, nice and raspy. Still need to fine tune the timing and the fuelling is a bit rich at the moment but all easy stuff when I have a bit more time. I am working tonight so had to pack up early

Busy day today converting the Sprite to run steel wheels and upgrade the brakes. In total I have: -Replaced front copper brake lines -Fitted braided stainless brake hoses all round -Rebuilt the brake master cylinder -Replaced front hubs and discs -Replaced rear axle and swapped diff over I found that the rear prop UJ is knackered so I still have that to replace, then it all i need t do is set up the rear brakes and handbrakes and bleed the system through and hopefully all will be well. I am also going to make a larger carb heat shield as it is suffering from vaporisation after 15 minutes of running or so and replace the fuel lines. Sounds like a lot now I have written it all down

Looks good, but why did you decide to change from wires?
Having once owned a 1972 MGB GT on wires, I'm suspecting it's because you didn't like having to try to keep them clean?
And, how do you find the single HIF44 over twin 1.25" SUs? On my 1275cc Midget-engined Minor Traveller, I found it to provide much smoother driving in traffic, with no noticeable loss of overall power, better mpg and far less maintenance required, which was nice - I donated my original twin carbs to my brother for his Mini.

Yes the original wires needing re-painting and I originally wanted to put minilites on it. I was looking to buy all the parts seperately and then buy the wheels but I found a guy online selling a full steel wheel conversion kit from his recently restored car and price wise it turned out to be a straight swap from the tatty wire wheel bits to the fully refurbished steel wheels, axle and hubs, so these wheels will stay for a while.
If we decide to keep it long term I will get the bodywork bits tidied up and get some Minilites and sticky tyres for it

Well it looks like the Austin is going to get some serious money spent on it soon. My other half has decided to sell her main car so the little Austin will be her main vehicle (she walks to work and gets the train a lot so it will still be fairly light usage)
This means though that it needs getting ready for daily driver duties and all the little niggles sorted for her, as well as a good clean up of the underneath and bodywork and a fresh treatment of Dinitrol so it hopefully won't suffer too badly over winter. Removing the aged Waxoil will be hard work i think though!
Front hinged bonnet is also on the cards

Excellent little project. I think it looks great on the steel wheels.
Well done on the wiring. Its a dark art to me. One I'm going to have to master though as my considerably newer Polo looks to have had similar bodges.

Still miss my old Frogeye, it was a MkI but mechanically was all MkIV - absolute hoot in all weathers! UUT 776 - where are you now? Hi, we brought this little car from you, now known as Paddy by everyone, as we saw that his first registration date was 17th March. He's still a toot and always puts a smile on my face

I must say that the frogeye front end on the later style body was an interesting combination.
