Bought a reconditioned and powdercoated chrome bumper cross member. I had a go at repairing the rubber bumper one, and it went ok, but it's easier to use the correct one, and it was a good price (approc £120 IIRC). You can easily see the differences in the pic above.
The chrome bumper dashboard and steering column affix in different ways. I may switch to an actual chrome bumper dashboard later on, but in the mean time I just whipped up a bracket to hold it on - also means I can have the steering column tube in place without having to install the dashboard fully:
Screen removed from the previous car and installed in the new one - surprisingly easy!

Painted the bootlid in situ, not a great colour match as you can see with Halfords paint + years of aging on the body, but better than red/orange by a long shot!

Picked up some MX-5 seats but they were missing a runner. I can't seem to just buy one runner so instead made some brackets to mount them on the original runners, which are absolutely fine after a clean and grease.

Modifying the gearbox crossmember to make it easier to install whilst the gearbox is in place.
Painted in Galvafroid and gloss black enamel.
Installed a reconditioned front plate to the engine due to the differences in engine mounts between chrome and rubber.
Gave the engine a clean and a coat of gloss black
Replaced the water pump - the previous one had definitely had it!

Replaced the rear main seal and reunited the engine and box.
Installing the engine - definitely going to buy a leveler next time! That was a difficuly one

I didn't get a job I really wanted so commiserated by getting some nice Minilites with new tyres. It's the look that everyone does - but honestly they suit the car down to the ground.
Door painted and new stainless steel inner wing guards. Both other pairs were pretty shagged and they do an important job, the inner wing 'trumpet' is prone to rusting away.

Pulled the old shell out of the garage and sent it to a new home with someone with far better welding and fabricating skills than I!

Made a new union bracket and upgraded to braided brake hoses.
Cleaned the surface rust out of the heater channel and installed the heater. An absolutely pig of a job! I had to stand on top of it with my shoulders on the garage rafters and force it down!
The exhaust that came with the car is in relatively good condition. A few pin holes in the centre section but came apart easily enough and I cleaned it up with a drill wire brush attachment.
