So, off we poddled to pop a cherry... Quick burnout (probably too brief but baby steps and all that) Carefully staged by a very helpful start line official who could clearly tell it was my first time and ensured I was all good to go before giving the signal to light the tree Trans lock on, finger on the button, hold the throttle down (there's a second ecu / rev limiter that holds the revs at a settable level) Wait for the green And Release the button. Simple as that Now, I've been lucky enough to drive some quick cars and bikes over the years, and can safely say nothing has ever come remotely close. The nearest I can imagine would be to be fired from a catapult - it's way way more forceful than a hard launch even in a quick supercar. As soon as you can say knife / gosh / well I'll be blowed (actually that and Nos are on the future mods list of possibles!) you need another gear. Further intense but calmer acceleration and another...oh... Third didn't want to play so it was hold second over the line for an 11.01 (sooo close to a maiden 10!) - decent launch / intermediate times but a v low terminal speed at 111 Still, cherry popped, in one piece and chute deployed and working, so basically all good. Just needed to work out why we weren't getting third...

Careful checking of the adjustment required. It's a 7 position ratchet shifter on a 6 position box (PRN321), the reason being a very long throw on Park on these boxes, so you use 2 ratchet pulls for that shift. Makes perfect sense once you've eyeballed it and spoken with the builder of the box, but capable of throwing you off the scent till then I can tell you!

2 big advantages on this run - a bigger burnout and a warmer track. Much better for grip and times. One big disadvantage - assuming that the previous bit whereby the starter chap would ensure we were all good beforehand would still apply. Big mistake! So, in so far as it's possible to reconstruct after the event all those instantaneous thought processes thunk in the heat of the moment, the run kind of went like this - Biiiig burnout (overseen by Paul who made sure I kept going well after the car was full of smoke etc.). All good Trickle into stage. Yep, all good Hear a slight knocking noise (yet to be investigated, as seems intermittent). Briefly consider aborting but pressures and temps all good so figure it isn't a big end or owt, so we'll go Start to reach for the trans lock Hear my opponent launch (pretty hard in fact!) Think 'OK it's just a RWYB' so I can just go when I'm ready Realise that that means loss of a 100% (ie 1 out of 1!) win record Go to go, have a momentary panic that the trans lock might still be on, make sure it isn't with a little lurch off the line then give it the max and despite the poor launch technique she digs in like the pro she is (and I isn't!) and positively fornicates off up the track. Once again second is needed in literally the blink of an eye, this time the haul through second is much harder, and third engages cleanly for a further hard pull to the line, a terminal of 135 mph and - despite the frankly pathetic launch shenanigans - a 9.7 time for the run On the third run the line lock and the brake system had a bit of a sparring match resulting in a car stranded on the line with the brakes locked on, which was a tad awkward, but a friendly marshal was quick to the rescue cracking a nipple and allowing us to escape stage left, as it were By this time the day was over, so we loaded up for home. Only 2 runs completed against an expected 10 or so but very happy (not least to have gone sub 10 inside 2 runs, despite ineptitude, as that and a car in one piece were the 2 goals for the weekend. Double thumbs up!) So, a few jobs to look at over the winter and we'll be back in the spring chasing eights! Meanwhile a top first outing, genuinely great fun, enjoyable and relaxing, and a great bunch of people to spend time with. All good Onboard vids to follow when uploaded, and possibly some external ones too Cheers Matt

So the good Paulo (to whom a million thanks as ever for sterling crew chief / spannering / problem solving duties as ever this weekend, btw) has just sent over the VBOX stats... - Run 1 pulled a max of 1.5G - terminal 117.6 (in 2nd) Run 2 pulled a max of 1.6G - terminal 136.9 (in 3rd) Â 0-62 was 2.4s Kinda like a Veyron, but with added Dagenham. And way cooler, of course...!

apologies for the boring question with so much aweseome new content, but in the pictures of your undercarriage it looks like the rose links on your suspension have little rubber collars round the spheres ? are they a thing ? genuinely i was worried about damage/corrosion on my lower arms.

Yes - available as little rubber rings or complete 'hoodies' from all the usual suspects - whether to run them on any particular car depends on myriad factors IMHO, but usually with a leaning against - rose joints only last (if at all!) if kept clean and cared for, and in many cases it can be worse to trap dirt moisture & invisibility in than to keep everything regularly cleaned & inspected
Cheers

So very very very minor update time
Paul and I had a pint last night (it's been silly busy on the work front) and agreed we must fix the brakes and get back out very soon
After Eights, as they say
More soon
Matt

Recently found these pages from an old (August 1988) Street Machine, 'Geof Hauser's Pro Sierra', I know it's not your car but it does mention building a pro-street Sierra. If you want the pages or better scans (these are just iPhone pictures) let me know. Mark

Looks all calm and collected from the outside, then inside you look like your holding on for dear life.
