Back in August I logged on to Facebook one day to find a message from the guy I bought the van from asking if I wanted to buy a Montego Countryman TD with Mot until next February. Despite living in another country now and being on a car buying ban, the obvious thing to do is get your brother and a friend a train ticket to Thurso to pick up the car. So for the grand sum of £550 I got this beauty plus a spare Perkins Prima with 30k on it and a "mountain of spares". So here she is
I have a few plans for this car, including a set of coilovers and colour coded Revolution RFXs or 5 spokes if anyone has any for sale let me know. Overall it is a solid car, it has rust in the usual Maestro/Montego places but underneath it has been well wax oiled and is solid. The 2.0 Prima runs sweet as a nut and sitting at 178K I hope I get a few more miles out of her, But if the worst does happen I have a spare engine with 30k.
The Shunter- Maestro Van I bought this curse word heap van earlier this year, unseen and 120 miles away, I bought a one way train ticket and armed only with a wallet full of cash and a couple of packets of Transform-a-snacks I boarded the train. I was greeted by the shoddiest Mot'd thing I have ever seen, instantly it was love. The 2 litre non Turbo diesel handled the 120miles home brilliantly, not missing a beat. The day I bought her Probably my Favourite vehicle.
That's all for now, I will update with the rest of the cars later

I think the prima in the Montego is good for a few more miles yet. My father in law has one on nearly 330k! And still does 500 miles a week in it.
Love the van aswell, do you have any more Maestros?

I know of primas with 500k, but I forgot to mention this has had the boost upped slightly, and an intercooler to be fitted.
I also have a 2.0 MG maestro, a 1.3 Ledbury Maestro and an 998 Austin Metro.
Here's an idea of what my shed looks like, the P6 and Bedford are my brothers.

Great stuff, would love to see more pics of the 2.0 MG, loved the blue MG 2.0 EFI i had back in the late 90's, had it resprayed Ford Azure blue (following new doors, bonnet, tailgate and rear arches), had Moto-Build suspension and Montego Turbo wheels, still remember the reg E111 WRH, probably long gone now.

I came home from work one Friday to a load of messages telling me about a Maestro for sale locally, so away out for a couple of pints and the next thing I know I have agreed to go and pick up Mr Sparkles the next day. The name came about because I bought the car of the local chip shop/ ice cream van owner called Sparkz.
So off I went on the Saturday with a sore head to pick up Mr Sparkles the 1.3 2001 Ledbury, which it turns out I nearly bought a year earlier. Sorry I only have one picture at the moment.
Top tip if you ever want large Pickle jars buy a car from a chip shop owner, I got 4 with the car. Sadly this is the only photo I have as I lost the rest on my old phone. It is currently off the road waiting for a head gasket and a little bit of cosmetic work keep the dreaded rust away from the usual maestro spots.

When I first got the Montego it blew a shock absorber, ever since then I have being searching for the correct heavy duty rear shock absorbers but have had no luck. This had led me to fitting a shock absorber from a saloon, leaving the car sitting like this.
I wasn't really happy, so started looking into other options and this is where coil-overs came up, at first I wasn't to keen on this idea at first but the more research that me and my brother done, the more sense it made, As you can imagine coil-overs for Montegos don't exactly grow on trees but due to Maestros/Montegos sharing an identical suspension set up it is very easy to get coil-overs. I chose Polo 6n coil-overs for cheapness and availability. Here is a picture of the coil-overs beside a Montego shock.
As seems to be the case when changing the shocks on a Montego it wasn't straight forward removing the original 22 year old shock absorber as the bottom bolt had seized to the shock and had to be cut off, here is picture of the offending bolt.
Now on to fitting the coilovers, this was a straight forward enough job, the only alteration needed is to fit the Montego top mounts to the coil-overs. When fitting the front you also need to elongate one of the holes for the bottom mount by around 2mm.
We also fitted new strut top bearings while we had the opportunity.
So here is the result, along with a new set of wheels and tyres.
I know some people wont like it but I think it improves the car, it rides better than the old shocks and looks good.
For the MOT it still needs a blow in the exhaust fixed and a patch in the drivers sill that hopefully will get done next week.
