Might be worth disconnecting the lights on the run and adding them back in 1 at a time. If theres a fault occured on one it may be pulling down the circuit. If it trips on the first one I'd bypass it to check it isn't it that has a fault. Have you tried swapping the circuit to the mcb next to it that works, and see if that one trips? Tried that by wiring up one lamp directly to the board and it still trips. However, I am using two separate wires (not double insulated) on this test, would that make any difference? They are not touching each other.

Is it worth trying the direct wire with a couple of different fittings, just in case the one used happens to have a fault?
cabling outer sheath is more about mechanical protection rather than electrical insulation. Unless the voltage is above domestic levels.

OK, riddle me this :-)
Wire in MCB 3rd from left trips RCCB. Put wire in MCB 8th from left, which is on a different RCCB, and it works fine. Lights in workshop, storage and seating area are on MCB 4th from left and work fine.
At least I can carry on with the lighting but I have no idea what the issue is.

As johnthesparky said its important the neutral goes in the corresponding neutral bar so all the left hand MCB use the left hand neutral bar and all the right hand MCB use the right hand neutral bar, no neutrals in the very right hand neutral bar though

As above. Very much sounds like the neutral is on the wrong half of the split if it pulls the RCD and swapping fixes.
Its important for rcds that current out = current in.
And also why it's a mare when someone nicks a neutral with a nail in plastered walls as they often cause sporadic RCD trips based on humidity and cause low level current bleeds. Not enough to pull a fuse /mcb but enough to unbalance an rcd.
Hope that's you sorted

Neutral bars, right, didn't know that. I will go and have a look now and report back.

Sorry didn’t get back to this, glad it’s sorted
Next time the cover is off, if you look at the rails into the bottom of the MCBs you should see where the split is (I’d guess it’s 5 + 5, so the 5 from the right on the right RCD and 5 from left on left one) then need to keep the neutrals related to those breakers in the correct neutral bar

At least I had RR to fall back on. Sometimes the interweb is actually useful, but now back to watching cats do daft things :-)

Very true! But it does highlight those very nice....but wide/heavy front wheels/tyres, do you have some demon light narrow ones ready for your runs up the quarter mile?

Very true! But it does highlight those very nice....but wide/heavy front wheels/tyres, do you have some demon light narrow ones ready for your runs up the quarter mile? These wheels are from a Sierra Cosworth I stripped a few years ago and are only there to hold the car up. I have yet to finalise my wheel/tyre choice, but tyres will probably be 205/14 or 15 fronts and 285 or 335/15 rears. I will not be fitting stupid looking skinny fronts, unless I am running something.01 sec 1/4s :-) Also, I don't like spoked wheels on older cars, especially Elans, so they will be sold as soon as the proper wheels (they will be in a slot mag style) are purchased. Wolfrace slot mags were fitted in its previous incarnation.
