Last day doing what I like as Management is back from California on Monday so I have to spend tomorrow mucking out the house to make it presentable. I will fail but will try to fail as little as possible. Today was more aero work. Started on the strakes on the centre section of the underfloor panelling. First fit of the CF side skirts. Driver's side will be simple but the passenger side needs a little more thought. The skirt will be attached to the removable exhaust cover and pass under the exhaust outlet. Not sure what to do here at the moment as I would like to keep a continuous skirt. I could get a curved section welded to the end to bring it over the skirt and cover the surrounding area in Zircoflex. Need to just sit and stare at it for a bit. I may fit a rubber strip to the bottom of the skirts, undecided.

Playing around with dive plane concept. Would like to direct a little air over the wheel arches so nothing too big. Working out how to make the mould took a while but I settled on aluminium and composite core material. I will finish the core material with a thin layer of filler. It all went a little wrong when I tried to lay up the carbon cloth. Even with it saturated with resin it wouldn't stay attached to the core material - bend was too abrupt. So, back to prepreg, but this poses a problem as the core material is only good up to 80 deg C and the minimum cure temp for the prepreg I have is 85. It would probably survive this but the cure time is 16 hours! However, I have some carbon/aramid prepreg which cures in 16 hours at 80 and 8 hours at 90. I will check with Easy Composites to see it their max temp is conservative.

Made a mod to the mould and laid up the aramid/carbon prepreg. Tomorrow I will bag and, hopefully, cure it.

Regarding the out of square front clam, one tyre was underinflated so that has removed 6mm of out of true. It's a start, just another 25mm to go. Not sure that the tyres are exactly the same diameter so will check that tomorrow. Then on to the tracking/camber adjustment.

First version of the dive plane. Aramid seems to be a little 'fluffy' around the edges when sanded so I may have to remake it in pure carbon. I have found some that can be cured at 65 deg C so my moulds will still work. The greyness in the internal corner is a slight build up of resin. This is easily smoothed out. With regard to the clam issue, by relevelling the chassis after equalising the tyre side wall heights, I am down to around 8mm difference, probably not noticeable unless looking for it, but I will keep at it.

Does anyone know if this has an official name? It isn't a wing as air doesn't pass over both sides. It isn't a spoiler as the air isn't disrupted, rather it is just redirected on to a smoother trajectory. If these are the only choices I would plump for spoiler, as it does redirect air (if not actually spoiling the flow) travelling over the top face, similarly to an actual boot spoiler.

A quick Google seems to suggest it is a "drag spoiler" and can give quite an improvement in downforce. I'd imagine its main purpose is to smooth the air flow off the back of the car, and improve straight line stability

If you type in race car spoiler you still get images of wings, so I wouldn't put too much store by Google's opinion :-)

I'm sure there are people on this forum better qualified to comment but are canards road legal in the UK?
Might be some potential for increased pedestrian injury if clipped by one.
Any MOT tester like to comment?

Will this car even require an MoT? I wouldn't have thought so...

Any MOT tester like to comment? No idea about road legal requirements, but not an issue for MOT purposes as they aren't caused by corrosion or damage

Will this car even require an MoT? I wouldn't have thought so... I seem to recall nalesutol saying he was going to have it MOT tested, but that was many pages back And it is extensively modified (rather than radically altered)

Will this car even require an MoT? I wouldn't have thought so... That's an interesting one, as it is not standard. However, I will be getting an MOT. Having someone qualified to give it a once over isn't a bad idea. However, if I leave the floor on there will be nothing to check underneath as nothing will be visible :-) I will take it off.
