Yesterday I had a bit of a road trip, not too mega, just 8 hr there & back. I went daarn saarf to Colchester & collected this little peice of retro-ness. For those who don't know it's a Romini, which were built by Island Plastics ( later to be Romahome Ltd ) on the Isle of Wight. They are a clever little design, in as much as, most caravans tend to leak & become damp after a while because of the joints where the sides & the roof meet. Island Plastics were actually boat builders, so used the same idea to make these caravans, i.e a top half & bottom half. Obviously because the top is one piece, there are no joints, simples! This is an LS model, so believe it or not, is 2 ft longer than the standard length, meaning you can have the beds as 2 singles or a double. This particular one is the second only prototype & I have paperwork from the manufacturer stating this with the chassis number. It's got al ittle cooker & fridge Then little sink the other side. Just needs a bit of tlc & a good clean outside, looks like it's been parked under trees or a hedge & got green all over it. Should be great for a few festivals we have planned over the summer. I will update as I go along, hope you like it

That's a cool caravan. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for it?
I've been thinking of buying a knackered caravan and using it as a donor for Windows, fridge, cooker, bed etc for my campervan project.

Couple of grand, they fetch good money as they only made around 200 of them. There is one of the smaller ones on eBay now start bid £2750 www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/361511651207

I'd be better with a £500 run of the mill caravan if I'm going to pull it to bits.

Defo, I sold one a couple of yrs ago which had got the damp problem going on in the top corners. The interior was mint, sold it for £300, you'd pay more than that for a caravan fridge

Made a start over Bank Hol, removed the cooker, you can see in one of the pics earlier, that it was a bit rusty in the corners & it's about the same I the lid This the section when removed, it's just like a pre-formed glass fibre section I'm gonna get it stripped back & re-painted Also removed the pelmets, they were a bit passed their best & we are having the seating re-coved, so it makes sense. Removed Same with the 'so called' arm rests. Will update as we go

Try G3 compound on the fibreglass. Or even fine wet and dry and the G3. Would be better than paint. Some white manifold paint would work on the cooker. Cheers

Yeh did think about manifold paint, just not sure if it is glossy enough, it tends to be a bit matt. I'm not painting any of the glass fibre, it's only marked where I've removed stuff, all those areas are covered once everything back in place. I'll have a look at some exhaust paint & see, Cheers

Took the cooker apart today, as mentioned earlier, it's a bit rusty in the corners There's only a few small self tappers & it's apart. I took it to my powdercoaters for him to checkout & he rekons it's nowt special, just same sort of stuff he does. He says it's good up to 200 degrees so should be ok, gonna give it a go anyhow & see.

Took it out for just an overnight stop, up into Derbyshire Peaks. It's only 20 min drive for us. All good & just to test the revamped cooker, 1st kettle boiling & bacon butties
