Thanks for posting up those pictures Thankfully it's good news have just spoke to the owner and the car has been found thanks to the power of face book. No major damage steering wheel hack sawed through to remove crook lock and ignition barel damage. One very happy and relived owner!

Thought I'd share the info the owner has given on another forum
"I can confirm that the car was found earlier and is now rather secure!
The **** who stole it managed to open the drivers door, cut the steering wheel with what looked to be a hacksaw (no tools left but tool marks very visible) to remove the disklok off the steering wheel and then kindly unscrewed (yes that's right) the steering column cowling, unscrew the ignition barel and just started it with whatever they had. Only damage is that it needs a new steering wheel and my sense of security! Also when it was found they had managed to get the disklok back on the wheel and popped the cowling on. I hope this description will help people make their pride and joy more secure. I thought my Escort was safe but they still got round it and never made a sound! Also very strange but nothing was taken from the car and seems nothing left in it either, even has my lighter on the dash where I left it and they even left the screws to put the interior back together, I'm totally baffled if I'm honest and never thought I'd see it again let alone in the same condition it was taken in, apart from the steering wheel! Also thanks to a lot of very helpful people, I now have a good description of the offender and know where the car has apparently been! It was taken from my home address near Diss, the we heard it travelling towards Thetford, no idea where then. Then sometime today it was seen near/at McDonald's in Dereham and also spotted driving through atleborough. Will not give the description as police are currently dealing with the situation. CSI will be coming tomorrow. I sent the message out at approx 5am and it was all over Facebook by 6am, then at around 6pm we had a call from a chap saying he had just arrived home and realised that my Escort was parked on his road,, he said had seen it on a mates Facebook page earlier today and recognised it being so different. Turns out that Facebook thing is very useful, shame I don't use it, though I'm so glad everyone I know does. I'd just like to thank everyone for their concern and help with posting messages on other sites and sharing the Facebook messages.
Thanks, Craig (the happiest XR owner ever!)"

So glad this is back I've got an xr3i and also had a capri stolen before so know the feeling albeit my capri didn't have a happy ending. One question I have to tru and help my security on my xr3i was it am actual disklok or was it a different wheel lock as would think it would be bloody difficult to get a hacksaw to the wheel with a disklok on. Want to know if I should be beefing up security in any way
Cheers
Josh

"They cut the steering wheel and bent it to get the disklok off, it's not the full wheel one but the grey bar with the yellow camp on the end. Still must have taken some time and effort to bend the wheel, I couldn't bend it back into shape once the CSI had been yesterday!"

Yes , getting into old cars is a piece of pee if you were not around back then to know it - notice door pins disappeered mid to late 90s .... .
They WILL get it , you just have to make it too risky for them to try [ cameras , lights , gates , dogs etc ] and to much like hard work .
I'm starting to wonder if a sticker system would work - something like a RR sticker of something , like a facebook page of the same name . People join said page and if there car is nicked other members do there utmost best to plaster it on soical media , the more local the better .
Would that make cars theives think again , as we all know they are into cars , hence read the very pages we do ? Would knowing that a car was part of a social media sharing group act as a detterant ?
