Yep... If it's at home, concrete a ground anchor in and chain the curse word down. I still wouldn't think twice about using a stoplok/ disklok as a visible deterrent for opportunists. Anything that'll make them think twice at a show/ meet/ car park or whatever can't be a bad thing. If someone's truly decided to have your car away, replacing a steering wheel wheel as a trade-off to inconvenience them sufficiently to stop an all out theft is a small price to pay imo, especially if it's then backed up with yet more obstacles. I put my disklok on everywhere, even at car shows. You can't be too careful.

Yep, surprised me too. I thought mine was a relic of a bygone age until I saw the self-same Practical Classics ad this month. It also shows a "Professional" version at about £49 though there aren't any details of why its professional (except the head end is black instead of yellow).

You have to buy that version if your a chartered accountant , lawyer , dentist etc . Obviously .....

Ah of course...the Professionals eh? :-) No wonder the price goes up, tax deductible no doubt.
Is there a Pensioner version me wonders? How 'bout a padlock and a piece of chain through the steering wheel and round the clutch pedal: def worth at least a tenner a go.

Please do not use the stoplocks shown with the yellow clamp and grey bar. I had a cavalier Sri stolen with one of these fitted. Police and recovery guys told me that thieves actually prefer cars with these fitted as they help them snap the steering lock. Then a few seconds to break the clamp lock. Full wheel disc locks on the other hand will deter most thieves.

With out going into any detail those streering locks you put over the streering wheel are extremely easy to remove and the ones you put over the gear stick and handbrake are even easier,

Then i remembered you can unscrew the gearknob...chucked it in the bin.

Although I liked the previous comment (because it's true), perhaps it could be removed, as not everyone will know that! I use one purely as a visual deterrant.

I think if you just push the like button again, your 'like' will disappear.

But if people didn't know and they have one they will know not to use it and improve there security, most cars that where made before imobolisers came in can be stolen in less then a 1 min, and honestly them steering wheel locks really aren't much of a deterrent they can be removed in less then 20 seconds with one tool I'm almost positive we all have, a good quality alarm and imoboliser that's bloody loud that has an anti tilt switch and a tracker is probably the best bet, you can get around a tracker but the bit of kit you need is illegal so hard to get hold off, and the cheep Chinese ones aren't very good i know someone who got hold of one because of his boss playing big brother

I think its worth people finding out how useless some things are. I didnt even put two n two together for a while. Peoples jacking cars will.

Completely agree. Knowing what doesn't work is just as important, if not more so, than knowing what does. If someone can have your motor away in a few minutes and not be spotted or seen again, they aren't stupid...

well, no good news from us, police still looking, car not found, owner still very upset. sorry not prepared to put any info here about what the security was on the car, they still managed to somehow drive off in it and make it disappear.

I read all this thread with interest (i like to read about the stolen cars and the recovery hopefully)
Just a point, when i was a kid my dad used to pull the rotor arm off his mk1 cavalier. It was never stolen, but not sure if that was down to the lack of a rotor arm or the fact it was a cavalier..

Always take the HT lead off where possible, always fit 2 trackers!! fit a cut out switch! If the car means that much to you, do what you can, use what's on offer! Anyhow, we all hope the car is found, not a nice thing to happen at any time of year.
