Hi My work vehicle is a lwb Citroën relay 2.2hdi 100 odd bhp last off the old shape on a 2006, the fuel consumption is around 20ish to the gallon which is a tab expensive. The exhaust tip is caked in soot so suggests running very rich in my mind, what can I do too rectify this if anything? Thanks in advance

As said, get it onto a machine to check the codes out . What is your oil level like?

change the mass air flow sensor
most likely cause of this
other than that, run some inejctor cleaner through it and give it a really good thrashing, all the way to the redline and hold it there whilst driving for a good 10 seconds to get them hot and burn the curse word off
although don't do that if the cambelt hasnt been done recently

As others have said, you need to get it on a Lexia to find out what's going on.
Having said that, the 2.2 was never as economical as the 2.0, so if you're booting it everywhere in a heavy van then you could probably get close to the 20s even if there wasn't anything wrong with it.

Slight update on this one, due to starting issues over last few days and knowing somebody who has recently bought a snap on solus he plugged it in and checked the live data, coolant temp cold was showing 215°c!!!! So new temp sensor ordered, hopefully will solve a few issues....anybody any ideas off what to expect when this has been Changed?
