....but part of me can't resist. Anyway, here's the candidate: Leave it as a 4-seater for a bit more practicality. Would look for it to be something like this (but without the suck-a$$ wheels and roll-bar): Yes I know its not a real cabrio bug, but these cars do usually annoy the VW-owning elite

Given that the worst has already happened to this car, you can't really hurt it any more so why not? I like the wizard style car up at the top. Where these home brew convertibles often fall down is with the top which often looks like a cheap tent when it's up and a bag of laundry when it's folded.
And the door tops too which need the remains of the window pillars removing and capping over, but I'm guessing you've thought about that.

Looks like a fun project! I have a genuine Cabrio now but as a teenager back in the 90s I cut the roof off my bug to do a Wizard conversion and it was a massive amount of fun for the money.
As said above, the damage is essentially already done so nobody could accuse you of ruining a good car. I would also agree with the smooth bathtub style approach with a chopped screen. The white/grey one above was always one of my favourites. Just make sure the heater channels and sill strengtheners are nice and solid. Add some cross bracing under the back seat as well for good measure.

I'd forgotten about this car: There's some nice parts to this car, but a few I don't think look so good now. Roll-cage for one. I was thinking about welding up the doors to increase strength. I don't think this Carson topped version has any side windows from memory and it looks the better for it. Let's not pretend this is a cabrio, may as well not bother having any roof on it.

My brother had one with a paris conversion. Basically the roof was like a tramps hat - looked curse word but kept you dry The roof worked better than the wipers. The women loved it and it probably earned him more sex than he deserved. Also check the original plate out:

Chop the screen, cap the door tops, don't have a roof.

^ Agreed! The tops of the doors, the part between the door and the rear quarter, and even the rear quarter going over the vent are so wavy it's unbelievable.
