Hi I'm living in Rhode Island for at least the next 6 months but work in MA and will travel up to New Hampshire often.
I've got a boring rental car which i have to share but i didnt come all this way to drive a Chevrolet Cruze.
I know i can drive a rental with no issues on UK license but if i wanted to buy something retro cool and insure it does anyone know what i need to do?
I'm told it varies by state.
The plan is to buy possibly a 60s lincoln continental and then when the contract finishes ship it back with me.
Please save me from this Chevrolet thing!

Hi, I live in Westford Ma, but used to live in Abergavenny and Newport, as well as other places during my time in the England and Wales. Rhode Island from what I recall is a pretty lax state when it comes to register a vehicle, Massachusetts, not so much. I had a heap of problems up here. I think however that is the least of your problems, I think you'll need to get a RI license as you are in the state for more than a few weeks. if you have an address there and are over on a green card, depending on the cop if you get pulled, they may do you for invalid or no license which is many points. below is from www.dmv.ri.gov/"Within thirty (30) days of moving to Rhode Island and establishing residency, you must obtain a Rhode Island Operator's License as required by state law (ยง Section 31-10-1). All Out-of-Country and US Territories (American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Midway Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Republic of Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and US Virgin Islands) drivers license transfers must be done at the DMV Cranston headquarters. These transactions are not performed at any DMV or AAA branch office. All documents need to be reviewed by the Enforcement Office on the first floor prior to getting a ticket at the Check-In Booth on the second floor. New residents from Out-of-Country who are 18 or older, must apply for an Instruction Permit at the DMV Cranston headquarters." I've just looked up the registration of a vehicle for RI, it looks straightforward, but they may demand a RI license based on your time in the state. if you are up this way, I'm not to far from rt3 and 495 lowell interchange.
