I don't think i've done a 'readers rides' post for a good long while, but as i've decided to keep my cavalier, not so much of a 'choice' as it wouldn't sell :/ but hey-ho nevermind etc... Anyway I have decided to add my own touches...
I got this 1985 GL as part of a part-ex with my CF, turned out it wasn't as good as i first thought, nothing majorly wrong, just a few niggles, so I decided to move it on... but as I said it didn't sell. So, because I found it slightly on the 'granddad' side of things, and because i prefer my cars to have a little bit of 'me' about them, and mainly just because i wanted to, I decided to alter it slightly...
First thing to do was to remove those awful side trims cav mk2's have...which involves twisting off the pegs that vauxhall decided to stick them on with, then grinding them smooth and filling the mess left behind...
Then I smoothed them down and on to the paint shop for a couple of rattle cans to blow it over, oh my, the paint code won't match up with anything vauxhall so we try opel, as it was a belgium build...which comes up with all these colours...
of which none match, the nice paint man mixed me up a few tester pots to try out, they were all far far too dark.
So what to do? I thought about going the 'sri 130' route by painting it black, or dark grey, or anthracite or whatever it is that 130's are painted in...but i'm not building a 130 and to be fair it's what everyone else seems to do, so i chose a nice ford blue 'fjord blue' and sprayed the bottom half in that.
Then i refitted the bumpers, which i have now painted black
so there you go, thats it so far... the next job is wheel choice, i'm thinking of banded steels, but i'm not too sure about it, the hunt is on for a decent set of wheels that will be subtle ish and not too in your face
