Managed to botch weld the diff cover so that I could still use it to shield the gears from all the curse word of a clean up, when held up to the light there are to many pin pricks to save this one. Wire brush, wall paper scraper, screw drivers, and wire wheel in angle grinder later - Not bad for first pass, taped the brakes up as I renewed them last year, after another couple of goes I will cure rust and paint it. Also got the handbrake cable off the car, it will be a damn sight easier to change now than later.

Nothing beats new parts turning up, new rear drop links, fuel pipe, bump stops, handbrake cable, batteries, and the most expensive diff cover in the world -

More cleaning then decided to bolt the diff cover on, what should have been 5 mins was almost 30 mins, ended up widening the holes a teeny bit in the cover just so I could locate all the bolts, quick brush over with cure rust then hopefully tomorrow I can paint it. Also did a clean off underneath the car, quick weld on the battery box & cure rusted, again paint tomorrow (filled the diff with nice clean gear oil) -

So nice when things can begin going back together...rear axle looks great. JP Cheers, I am addicted to the cure rust stuff, it is great to know that a chemical reaction kills the rust, I've scraped some underseal off the MG and it is rusting underneath it, at least with this stuff when the paint goes on that's hopefully the battle won for now. Cannot wait to get the back end done and get back to the body work.

More shiny new bits, just need to get the car underneath & axle painted so it can dry for a weekend reassemble - Hopefully it will last another 40 years once back together, or longer considering most of the bodywork is now fibre glass.

Ive been using rust converter everywhere I can, too. But I have found that it is pretty thin and does not soak into any accumulated rust, or even thin rust, but does convert and protect a thin layer on top. With most converters, I am lead to believe, you must top coat over them as the material is somewhat porous when cured. (like a primer). At least it is one more layer of protection, right?
new parts look great...these suspension bits always look very nice installed...and of course, bring good function back into the car!

Late home from work and I am still on it painted the axle, went underneath the car (with a light) and painted the battery box & leaf spring, lever arm mounts, back in the car painted the inside of the battery box. Pic of the axle, fingers crossed it dries for reassembly tomorrow & that the rear drop link brackets turn up.

Batteries in, wired up and clamped down with the addition of an isolator switch (top left). This is just so if I work on it or store it I can isolate the batteries without a spanner. Also may be useful if i leave the car anywhere in future so it cannot be stolen with a spoon. Had a go at bleeding the brakes but the plunger was stuck in the master cylinder after being left all winter without brake fluid, stripped it down & cleaned it, all back together and more or less bled, just need to do a bit more as the pedal is a tiny bit softer on the first push than the second. Car jacked up outside now and covered over at night, as soon as the nice weather comes it will be temporary marque and spray time.

Forgot the fuel pump was also a total pain, connected back up with one new hose underneath but when I turned the ignition on it would not stop clicking (pumping), before I took it off it slowed then stopped once enough was pumped, after to much time spent looking at what I had been doing I found that the hose in the engine bay was perished so leaking air. More parts to order now.

Just read from the start, great progress so far, especially for working out in this weather!
Are you still going with the Gold/Black colour scheme?

I have to say that I'm enjoying this build and the trials and tribulations - still in two minds about MG's but nevertheless -- enjoying it! Keep going and thanks for posting your progress

I am well beyond spoiled with my well insulated and heated shop. I have a lot of respect for those that can do this in the cold.
