Its crazy now, there isn't a single working car at £500 or less on my eBay. You'd have thought with the incoming CAZ's in various cities the market would be flooded but doesn't seem to be so far. I think one of the problems is, there's nothing good available to replace stuff with & if it is CAZ/ULEZ compliant then theres not much point replacing unitl it's dead.

Scrap values and getting something that’s decent doesn’t help either. I like this challenge however .

I like these, but I sort of don't fit. I had a look at one once while car shopping. All seemed fine, I got in it, headroom and legroom was fine and all was good, then looking forwards, I had a perfect view of the sun visor, not through the windscreen. Thanks for nothing, curved roof!

Even with "the treatment" (wheels&lows) I still have not seen one a class really sticking out of the rest.

Agreed quite possibly the worst built Mercedes had the misfortune to own a diesel that stripped the single tiny bolt that holds two injectors out of the head. This was before Merc did fixed price short blocks because of the issue. Multiple so called experts failed with timeserts and helicoils and I ended up drilling and tapping the head myself. I guess there wasn’t enough meat between the cylinders because I was always low on compression on one cylinder after. I got it motd running on three with a wheel bolt I machined the end of so I could screw it into the injector pipe to seal against the pressure so it didn’t smoke. Sold it at auction. Biggest loss I ever took on a car. I did actually love it before it broke was amazingly practical for something smaller than a fiesta. And it had the best factory fitted seat covers ever that you could put in washing machine

The neighbour has one and now and again he asks me to do some jobs - it doesn't help that he never drives it, so every bolt is always seized and rusted. Had to do a wishbone the other week - the car's so overengineered that the access to the frontmost bolt is barely bigger than a stamp, yet the bolt is about 5" long. I was ratcheting for about 10 minutes, one click at a time...

I have no idea on the suspension, but this with some Maestro Turbo wheels would be great. Simply because NOBODY else has one.

Jesus, Marketplace is suck a bag of dicks. Search for "car" less than £750 and I can getting wedding hire cars, "£750 deposit on a new car", private plates, furniture, lawnmowers, and a bunch of people who advertise their car for "£1" or "£123" because they are too stupid to know what its worth....

It isn't just that - my cousin asked me to help her find a "normal" 5dr hatch with a budget of £2k, must be petrol and as low miles as possible. Anyone would think they'd asked for the unobtainable! Seems most of them were owned by complete molluscs who couldn't even write a legible ad or they were from the same back street dealer.
