I don't think I did a thread for this on here when I built this, so here it is now! Some of you may have seen this dark fellow on the campsite at RRG16 this year, but for those of you who haven't, here it is. So, for RRG some sort of outdoor heat source was required (it's mandatory don't you know ) so I dug out an old gas bottle and decided what to do with it. First job, remove the base; Next part, make a door so combustables can be added; But we can't have just a plain old gas bottle looking thing. That would be boring! This next picture is a bit of a plot spoiler; But he can't see or breath. Let's help him out a bit there; A bit more 14swg for the back of his helmet; And a catch for the door;

A quick fire grate from some 1/2" bar I had lying about; Rear flue; Didn't want him falling over, so some big pegs were made to nail his ass to the ground; And a couple of coats of stove black; FIRE!!

Well, keeping warm is all very nice, but I want to eat some cooked food. Let's see what we can do about that....... So, I had kept the base I cut off,and cleaned it up a bit. I also cleaned up a bit of 316 stainless steel sheet I had kicking about; Sit it on his head; Great success;

A question I've often pondered - when you take your empty gas bottle there's going to be some gas left in there. How do you purge it before making the first cut with an angle grinder? I've wanted to try making one of these but never fancied taking an angle grinder to a gas bottle.
Cool stove by the way.

My method is possibly a little overkill but I'm still alive with all my body parts! Firstly I'll stand the bottle upside down for a week with the valve open to let the majority of the gas drain out (It's heavier than air) Then I'll unscrew the valve from the boss in the bottle. This can be rather difficult. After that I'll fill it to the brim with water, then screw back in the valve. Then, and only then will I make the first cut

Thats awesome i love it wonder ifu could do a simular r2d2 one? I have seen an R2D2 one. Whilst the main body would be simple enough, there was a lot of rather intricate cutting to provide the detail on it. Next on the list for me is a Stormtrooper and a 'Lego Batman'
