Can you get some pictures?
Was it a broad stripe or pinstripe?
Was it modified or standard?

unfortunatley my mate never took any in the 12 years he owned it. not sure on stripe will ask him and update. think it was pretty much standard bar pinto engine. it is in need of lots of work and from what i can gather was pretty rotten. I never saw it in person so unsure what exactly it looks like. It was stolen over the last few weeks.
one thing all this has made me realise is its well worth taking uptodate pics of everything you own as I have project cars that despite owning for years have no pics of.Probabaly a good idea to get some of my tools and parts too.
If anyone has seen an escort turn up in there area in the last few weeks that matches the vauge description please pm me so we can check it out for ourselves.

cant understand how people get away with blatantly selling ringing kits. I suppose the police are too busy to investigate fraud these days.

Ebay does to seem to care or realise what it is . Apparently you can report them to some governmanet agency which some people do and that puts a flag up against the reg no , but i have not seen or heard any evidence of that . I suppose so many modern cars are stoeln for export etc nowadays that they have no resources or do not distingish between normal car crime and classic car crime .
Classic crime is just as bad in my view , it seems a lot more cold and calculated . Often , like your mates car they are locked up away from eyes so much more thought and decpetion goes into it - its not just some bloke pinching a car off the street .
That makes it much much more devious and out of order to me .

Hi, This has been discussed before, If there's a reg number in the ad they can put a marker against the reg. The trouble is there's not really a crime committed until the reg/VIN is applied to another car that is not the original one and taxed for use. This usually won't be the vendor of the 'kit' but someone two or three hands down the line. Then they will investigate and it will usually be an innocent party who bought the car in good faith but he could still lose the car. Colin

If someone took one of my old cars i would be 100 times more gutted than if my modernish daily driver got taken as i could go out and buy another tomorrow where as i doubt i would ever get a classic car the same as my own.

Can you ask if it had broad or pinstripes, whether it was modified other than the Pinto, what wheels it had on it & what seats it had. Can you also find out what spares were taken too? If you can get this info ASAP, that would be a great help

It's been pointed out that there's a letter missing from the VIN number, can you recheck it

Correct VIN is BFATM500053 - The car is not showing as stolen on the vehicle provenance registers i.e. HPI/Experian and so probably not on PNC as stolen. Over half a dozen dealer checks on this vehicle in last 3 months, last check done via an Irish Vehicle Provenance Register company on 04/10/2016. Your mate needs to report the theft of the vehicle to Cheshire Police. The fraud bit, probably refers to Action Fraud, but this is not fraud, it's a straight theft and in any event, vehicles subject to fraud are not reported via Action Fraud. Good luck.

So do all these checks indicate that the vehicle was being sized up for taking? Are the recipients of the checks traceable?

Bloody well sounds like it ! Scumbags , so people are most likely using databases for criminal reason to locate cars !!
It would make sense that so many that have not seen the light of day for years have been pinched !!

Hi, I would say all the checks is because someone has been punting it around trying to get someone to buy it, because dealers will see the car first then check against the reg for details.

Sounds to me the last check might well indicate the car being offered to an Irish buyer shortly after the theft who has HPI'd to check status before parting with any money.
Such a number of checks seems strange, but how could anyone locate a car via HPI or am i missing something?

Does the o.p know if its been up for sale recently ? Sounds odd ? If it hasnt then what can someone get from the hpi check , and how would they know the vehicle number unless they have access to some sort of dvla type system ? That would give the registered keeper and cars location .
If it has not been for sale then something very very fishy has been going on , with people using stuff or selling information to people .
