Just been offered a Saab 96L which has just benefitted from a £4k's worth of work and 12 months mot. The body is tatty and requires painting and the interior is showing its age.
I've been asked to make an offer but can't find a baseline in the market. So, what's it worth?

Another difficult one due to rarity.
There appear to be two 'L' models left in the UK, one on the road & one SORN'd It could be that his is the one that was previously SORN'd meaning there's now two on the road?
Although also reasonably rare there are other SAAB 96 variants, I think the value will be just above those with the increased rarity adding a little something.
My best guess £6K-ish give or take £1K. With everything sorted & looking good could be worth up to £10K.
A SAAB 96L sold for £12K at auction, (almost certainly the other one on the road in the UK), but was a super-low mileage example in very nice order.

Thanks for the reply bud.
They seem to be a little all over the place and I'm guessing they're not hugely desirable.
I'll make an offer based on it needing paint and interior tidying.

Rarity only equates to value when combined with desirability. Whilst all 96s are undoubtedly cool, I don't see why an L would stand out as being more valuable. I'm no expert, but reckon £1200 would be a reasonable offer. Here's some completed listings showing some varying prices, but it looks like reasonable cars can be had for less than £2000. www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Saab/122149/i.html?_from=R40&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=saab+96

Thanks Rmad, I had a figure of £1500 in mind. Like you say, it's not massively desirable despite being a bit cool and quirky.

What's the work that's been done? When you say £4k's worth of work, does that mean receipts?

Only see this now. I don't value cars off photos, but if you need specific advice PM me. Also, www.saab-v4.co.uk is a good source.

Sorry peeps, been away.
There are receipts for lots of work, welding, engine rebuild etc all from a classic Saab specialist.

I don't know where your information comes from, but I don't think these are extremely rare nor that it being an 'L' model adds extra value. All 95/96s were poverty spec anyway, no matter if they were badged "DeLuxe","L", "GL" or "V4 Super". The book "The Saab Way" by Gunnar Sjögren is a good source for badge/ model year fetishists (which I'm not). It describes all features and changes per model year. My best guess £6K-ish give or take £1K. With everything sorted & looking good could be worth up to £10K. Here's a comparable one that recently sold for £1500: www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?topic_id=29028 I think that's a realistic price for project 96s like this. See other ads on the forum and finished eBay listings to get an impression of sales prices in general. V4s are still affordable motors fortunately, we don't do "scene tax". adam3442: ask someone on the V4 forum to view it with you. I'm happy to come along if reasonably close to Bath.

£1200-£1800
Certainly not worth anything above that price range.

I've been given a price from the seller of £1500. I'm not going to be buying so let me know if anyone wants the details.
Cheers,
Adam

Nope, just what you see there. But it has MOT and has had a significant amount of work done at substantial cost.
I'm not the seller but can provide details of them.
