Cheers guys, the jobs left are; Refurb rear calipers, got new seals, pistons and titanium nipples ready Fit the correct tie rods as last year i got some that were too short Buy and fit a new front bumper clip as its hanging off Buy and fit a new maf sensor Bleed brakes Bleed clutch as its still spongy Get a new windscreen fitted (might mot first as if this screen comes out it will need welding Do mot related welding!
Yes i did have a 4mo, and theres not a great deal of power to be released without spending big money. 35mpg is barely possible!

I’ve been busy this morning, may or may not have been playing with hard nipples 🙊 So I’ve refurbished the rear calipers I bought already stripped and painted (albeit not very well but I’m not overly fussed). Removed piston innards to replace a seal and clean up Fit piston seal, dust seal and wind in new piston For those who want a close up of my hard titanium nipple... Repeat process and I have a pair of calipers to fit Like so I also bought zinc plated wheel bolts with a radius taper as I only had flat taper bolts for the wheels it came on Also bought a set of new genuine caps for the wheels, these weren’t cheap but I was missing 3 so had to ne done So with the brakes bled (sort of, still need more bleeding) I started her up and drove her out the garage for the first time this year

Nice progress. Do you know the procedure for bleeding, bias valve clamped open, calipers off, pistons wedged, and bleed screw as high as the flexi allows?

Whether you believe you can, or you cannot, you're probably right.

I’ve never had much trouble bleeding these with just opening the bias valve (although they’re usually seized!) but admittedly I didn’t open it this time, i just wanted to get fluid in and i only had a bit left but i bought more later on yesterday. I’ve still got the stripes to remove on the drivers side which I’ll do today, but I’m much much happier with how it looks now!

A few subtle changes make all the difference and I don’t mind admitting... I’m in love!! Side repeaters and rear lights back to standard, i finished removing the stripes and gave her a clean

Car looks good. Shame about the rust but keep at it. What's BBM part all about?

Bright blue metallic ;-) in the mk2 world its a very desirable and unusual colour. Its the reason I probably paid too much for it!
In other news I’ve ordered a new jacking cup, and also a complete outer sill. I only need about 5” of it but for £27 it’ll save me a good hour or so trying to remake that shape (even though the skirt covers it) and I’ve got enough on with remaking that awkward shape by the jacking point. Hopefully will have more progress over the bank holiday

The passenger side? Thats also had a similar repair but as its in much better shape (I can still jack it up on that side) I’m leaving it alone for now. I just want to get it on the road this summer to iron out mechanicals then worry about the rest of the body next year (consisting of the passenger jacking point, rotten bootlid, cracking filler where its had a complete rear panel, rear arches and inners, drivers rear window bottom...)

Brodie Britain Racing. Along with GTI Engineering they were the original go to tuners for your Golf.
In fact I think Brodie was originally part of GTI engineering and then left to set up BBR.

Everydays a school day, I didn’t know that. If it was an original gti engineering car, I definitely wouldn’t have put a 20vt in it!

Got nothing done over the bank holiday so played catch up after work. Next mission was to reconstruct the lower rotten part of the inner sill. So I thought I’d have a crack at this CAD that all the pros are on with. Template and steel cut and filed to shape It’s a funky shape as it bends 90 degrees half way down its length, the pics don’t seem to show it very well. Anyway welded in and weld thru primed There’s a very good reason for using weld thru primer here. The sill lip is made up of 3 layers, this part being the middle. Once I’ve repaired the lower floor section (which I’m dreading as its a complicated shape) my plan is to drill along the lip and plug weld it, then do the same on the outer sill panel (which I’ve ordered from heritage) which is close to the original spec, although they are normally spot welded together which I can’t do for obvious reasons. I’ll try and get onto the piece behind this sometime this week
